I've got an idea about this. I think we can use the mod manager, with extracted files both romfs and exefs and possibly a few other things to make it run. If we use DBI to extract our files, I pulled from the original cart files and the updates and have them, and am in process of attempting to mod the skins.

alright keep me posted on updates about this
Figured it out!!!
OK so you I'm not sure if you need EVERY file to copy into the folders HOWEVER.... here's how I did it for 1 player only at the moment....

download your skin or change your skin, I got mine from mincraftskins under bedrock edition. I selected one and downloaded it.

use DBI to extract the following folders:
exefs
I left everything in this folder

exefs
-main
-main.npdm
-rtld
-sdk
-subsdk0
-subsdk1
-subsdk2

romfs
I only kept the skin_packs and nro folders
inside skin_packs I kept only vanilla
and I replaced alex.png with the skin i downloaded. I got the 'A Shadow of Color - Glistening eyes.png' file renamed to alex.png and replaced it in the vanilla folder

romfs
-nro
--MediaDecoders.NN.nro
-skin_packs
--vanilla
---alex.png (this is the file i replaced with the renamed Shadow of Color - Glistening eyes.png renamed to alex.png file)
---dummy.png
---geometry.json
---manifest.json
---skins.json
---steve.png

I transfered everything via ftp into atmosphere contents 0100D71004694000
and started my switch into minecraft and voila

alright thanks ill try this out in a bit for bedrock. btw does this work for minecraft nintendo switch editon (legacy edition)
So I was able to test this on a physical nintendo switch with the latest update for minecraft.

I'm unsure what you mean by legacy edition.... the switch edition of minecraft (to my knowledge) is bedrock edition

This is what I was talking about
No worries, I figured that out shortly after. I am finding you can easily switch skins to a ton of different ones via this game anyway. I don't know if you're looking to replace skins from there also or not....
I haven't looked into that game, only the other minecraft on switch with the latest update which still works with my method posted above.

thanks man, but i've seen that thread before, and there is an issue with when you try to generate sd files it gives a message saying "could not fetch kernel.patched.bin", and considering the guy that developed this software seems to be inactive so im not sure if that issue will ever be fixed since that thread is around 6 - 7 years old rn
