I always seem to struggle when it comes to updating firmware to play newer games. I needed an update to play a newer game today so I rebooted to its stock firmware Sysnand I guess it is inside the boot loader and updated. I then downloaded the files and from this guide https://rentry.org/UpdateCFW#pc-method and copied them to my SD card.

I can boot into stock firmware. But I can't get back into the boot loader. I plug in the jig and the RCM device and only ever get a black screen when I do Vol up and Pwr. Nothing else at all other than the green light seems to light up on the RCM device.

How to I get back into the custom boot loader from here? Once I do, what steps do I need to take to make sure the emmunand is on the latest 18.1.0? I'm sorry to be asking and I have looked around but there are so many different things out there I get confused. I consider myself pretty good with this type of stuff but the Switch has always been more confusing due to so many different methods and guides. For what it's worth I believe I am using Fusee.bin for my method. Thanks guys.

Just to update but my RCM device somehow got switched to Renix as indicated by the Green LED. Got it booted into Hekate finally by holding the Plus button on the device till the light changed to blue. Still working on making sure CFWis updated / figuring out the process so advice would b great before I screw up haha

Did you follow the guide you linked to? If so then your CFW files are updated.
Next step is to update the HOS firmware in EmuMMC. Before you can do that you either need to download the version you want somewhere from the internet or dump it from your SysMMC (https://rentry.org/DumpFirmware).
Once you have the firmware you can update EmuMMC with Daybreak (https://rentry.org/UpgradeDowngrade).

I don't have a RCM device, I always use my pc to get into Hekate. But other than that I always use this guide to update:
https://switch.hacks.guide/extras/updating/

You need to find out how you update to the newest payload on your RCM device yourself, but other than that you shoud be fine following the guide I linked to.

@Psionic Roshambo, CPS II machines were also difficult due to the suicide battery keeping the chips alive containing the decryption keys to decrypt the game. And if the battery died, then the game won't boot.

Honestly with the library of the PS3 and Wii.... For me the Wii wins that gen. I like FPS more on PC so that just kills the PS3 library... Wii had more odd games.

    Just my opinion of course
