Sony announces launch date for the upcoming live action Street Fighter movie

Street Fighter will be hitting the silver screen, as Sony has confirmed that a live action movie adaptation of the video game will be released in 2026. The project has been in the works since 2023, but has suffered setbacks, which included the film's two directors departing from the production. Sony and Capcom are co-producing the movie, together with movie studio Legendary Pictures. Street Fighter is no newcomer to live action films, with 1994's Street Fighter, which despite its negative reception, was a box office success. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was a 2009 film that served as a prequel to Street Fighter IV, but was critically lambasted. The new Street Fighter movie will hit theaters on March 20, 2026.

Street Fighter 6's iteration of of M. Bison pays homage to Raul Julia by giving him a horse, wouldn't surprise me if they have some reference to Julia's Bison in the new movie as well. Better that they don't try to "top" his performance but rather just go in a different direction with the character and overall story in general.

street fighter never has a good story, visuals are nearly all that could save it. you either lean into the trash factor, or you make it an animated movie or series where, at least, you can get some cool fucking visuals.

There's a cosplayer who cosplays as Cammy every year at this anime convention I always attend, and she has the massive pubic hair bush... It's hilarious.

Canonically, Bison's plan was initially to inhabit the body of either Cammy, Poison, or one of several other women groomed to be his "vessel" after his previous body was set to give out on him. So if you really want them to go that route, they could do so without changing Capcom's story outline too much.

The smart thing to do would've been to give Joey Ansah free reign and a big budget shortly after what he achieved with Assassin's Fist. His Akuma fight scene still gives me goosebumps to this day. The Ryu/Ken casting and choreography were also perfect.

AI is the best way to go. Forget about trying to hire actors. Just hire people with good AI and chatGPT and video editing skills to design characters, script, voices, etc. and you can give the audience what they want to see.
