'Visions of Mana' release date announced

Square Enix has today revealed the launch date for Visions of Mana, the next mainline installment in the Mana series. For the occasion, a new trailer was aired:

Visions of Mana is a brand-new story and mainline entry to the Mana series and follows the journey of Val, a newly appointed soul guard who is tasked with accompanying his childhood friend, Hinna, a chosen alm to the Tree of Mana. The new trailer introduces new characters Palamena and Julei who Val and Hinna befriend on their journey through the vast world to reach the Tree of Mana. In Visions of Mana, players will be able to build their own three-person dream team while in battle, switching between the five playable characters, Val, Careena, Morley, Palamena, and Julei with supporting companions, Ramcoh, Aesh and Hinna assisting from the side.

The new trailer provides a closer look at some of the latest gameplay features, including the Elemental Vessels, the mystical artifacts that house the power of the elements within them. Players can use the Elemental Vessels to change classes and gain new abilities during battles. With each character possessing their own specific class for each Elemental Vessel, players can customise their team line up to enjoy a flexible, fast-paced fighting style. Visions of Mana also sees the return of the series staple in-battle Ring Menu, allowing players to pause combat and plan out their next move. Elemental triggers can also be found throughout the vibrant world and used to unlock new places to explore and find hidden items on the map.

Players can even sail the sea or soar above the clouds with the beloved travel companions, Vuscav and Flammie. By summoning these trusty companions, players will easily be able to traverse across the open waters and the world map.

Visions of Mana launches on August 29 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store and Steam.

CAlling it now, launch game for Switch 2 with Mario Kart 8 Ultra Deluxe Edition and Breath of the Wild: the Revenge
I think the Switch 2 will be announced before March, 2025. This game's due around August of this year, barring delays. I can see a Dragon Quest XI situation, where Switch 2 owners get access to the Definitive Edition before it's ported back to everything else.

So do you
great comeback, friend. if you only want uWu great 10/10 remarks, stick to IGN boards. It is my opinion that a game that was pushing creativity at its time in terms of music and graphics is reduced to a bland Genshin lookalike. if you feel personally attacked by that, no disrespect but get a hobby. Secret of mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 are great games but are also somewhat carried by their nostalgia, but they are still remembered - this, just like Trials, will be forgotten the week after it is released.

You know, i think you have a point. To me, the Mana Series is really the first three games. I feel like the series really trailed off after the SNES, and games like Legend of Mana and Dawn of Mana simply did not bring back those unique memories that have kept the first three games in people's minds. I think both Kenji Ito and Hiroki Kikuta did a great job elevating the games through their music.

There's a reason the title screen of Secret of Mana is so iconic. For the time and tech, that opening was truly cinematic, emotional, and foreboding. Respectfully, I don't feel like those that have helmed the series since truly get how "vibrant, yet dark" a Mana game is supposed to be.

It would be nice to get a classic RPG (one that has menu screens and turned combat) instead of these running around button mashing crap they constantly shovel out.

Get yourself a Rog Ally X if you want small, or Legion Go if you want big, install and play as much as you want, no switch needed.
Actually you can play all switch games on emualtor, that CPU/GPU is strong enough, LegionGo is 8.8inch portable monster that can play PS3, Switch and of course all previous gen consoles.
These handhelds have touch screens so emulation of switch, DS, 3DS is as close to OG as posible

What is with Square and the story of someone sacrificing themselves for the greater good, a guardian to protect them, only to probably find it a sham, lately. It seems to be a common story for them in the last 5-10 years.

That being said, I haven't played a mana game since Secret of Mana on SNES. I've been thinking of diving back in though. It looks wonderful visually.

Self Sacrifice considered noble in all cultures but especially in Japanese culture [WW2 Kamikazes just one example]

In Secret of Mana, it made Dyluck's sacrifice so bittersweet. As a kid, that really stuck with me, since every other story I had seen was just "good guys win, bad guys lose, status quo maintained." It's another reason that Secret of Mana has stuck with so many people over the years.

No one talks about Lemon's sacrifice in Shining Force II, though. What an underrated gem.

I remember the time where I just stumbled upon Hiroo Isono iconic box art for Secret of Mana.
As a kid, I was amazed by how tall the tree was, but also how it felt alive, despite being only a painting.
Then I searched for his other artworks, which were just as beautiful or even more.

After gazing upon them for a few minutes, I thought "it's a shame that we don't have a Mana game like this in 3D, to really pay respects for his artwork - this guy deserves it."

After many years, I'm finally having the pleasure to see a new game that is reaching a huge fraction of that potential.

If you can find one or two people to play Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) with, it's a real trip. I've been meaning to give the third game an honest try because that game looked amazing for an SNES release. I think Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, and Seiken Densetsu 3 are the best looking JRPG's for the Super Famicom.

Legends of Mana I couldn't get into, so I fell out of the series at that point. I'll go to bat for Secret of Mana any day, and I wonder if this new game will capture any of that magic.
The series fell out of itself after Legend of Mana...

I really wish this game to be good but seeing as how they fucked up the Legend of mana remake? I will wait for many reviews and months after the game release first.

I read that they removed Denuvo back in 2021. What else made it a bad port? I heard the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles remaster was a bad port, but it never even came out on PC, so I didn't follow the news about it.

well seeing it looks like a direct sequel to SOM it should be good. there's no co-op though according to the wiki
You know, a good co-op multiplayer story campaign would help the game stand out. It was such a hallmark of the series in the SNES days.

The price at launch mostly, nowadays it is a decent remake but the fact they didn't fix the lands system so you can play all sidequests (save for those that end with different outcomes) without beating the game annoys me as the whole lands system, while a fun novelty the first time you play, was what almost everyone hates about the game.

Overall it was the same game, with an optional revised soundtrack I don't care about, a minigame that used to be exclusive to the the
Japanese version, and that and a slight improvement in graphics was it. Compare to for example the wind waker remake that fixed the most annoying things in the game or the skyward sword remake that fixed the combat system... just didn't feel there was enough to buy the game again when for me the Playstation version is good enough.
