What do you get out of a cheap Dreamcast to SD card adapter?

There aren't any teardown pictures online, to my knowledge. However, I would discourage anybody from buying these pieces of crap just because they were made as cheaply as possible.

The adapter is clipped together with loads of hot glue, and opening it up reveals that the entirety of the adapter is a cut up SD card slot wired up to a plastic connector that goes into the serial port. The soldering is also very shotty, too.

You'll be better off picking up a Dreamcast ODE instead or install a custom BIOS. Don't waste your time with this, unless you're on a tight budget I guess.

I only got one a few years back because I wanted to backup my VMU saves, that said, I agree they're poorly made **** made worse by the snot glue.

I said I got one, but it was actually 2 as the first one was buggered and I couldn't attempt a fix thanks to the aforementioned glue.

I just wired up a sd to micro sd in side of mine and cut out a spot in the cd tray for it to sit that did interfere with the cd rom, that said I also did the ide mod and use dreamshell to boot games from it and that is all I really even use it for, a way to get to the games on the cf adapter.

IIRC there’s a Sega genesis emulator that requires you to build a disc image with roms in it. This would work nicely for the SD card adapter. I got mine years ago for the save transfers like someone mentioned above.

For the non-MIL CD rev 2s out there I always thought about finding some bug in like the web browser and exploiting it to load games off of the SD card since we can’t use the actual GD-ROM drive with that BIOS revision.

The thing about the Dreamcast is it’s the first console which got an ODE (AFAIK!) and it’s drop in replaceable no soldering like the PSX.

wii Flatmii (2008) was a clunky effort which streamed games from an attached PC.

Then came the Sundriver and WODE devices.

At least that sorta fixes things. I didn't want to modify mine at first considering how much these now go for.
