Majora’s Mask PC port 2Ship2Harkinian gets its first release

MM.jpg

After several months of work, the Harbour Masters 64 team have released their first public build of 2Ship2Harkinian, a feature-rich Majora's Mask PC port. This comes just weeks after Zelda64Recomp, a separate PC port of Majora's Mask, released to show the potential of static recompilation tool N64Recomp. Being known for their Ocarina of Time port before this the Harbour Masters 64 team have a number of great quality of life improvements out of the gate, with more to follow in the future as the project matures.

In the 1.0.0 release dubbed Rika Alfa, you can expect to find options allowing for free camera control, Ocarina of Time-style saving, and cutscene skipping amonst much more. The port also features configurable graphics options, as well as framerate customisation that makes use of matrix interpolation, preserving the 20 FPS in-game logic while giving you the smooth experience many come to expect of a modern title.

As with Ship of Harkinian you are required to provide a ROM to be able to play, with both the N64 1.0 and GameCube USA ROMs being supported. Setup is as easy as pointing the executable file to your ROM, and setting whatever new options you might fancy out of the gate. For Steam Deck users there is also a native Linux release available. You can find the source code and download linked below.

It said "supports GameCube USA ROMs" Like actual gameCube roms? If so, how do I get my "legally obtained" copy of LoZ Collectors Edition on there??? :( It only says .N64 for the moment. Trying to extract the files. Hope I can get some help. Sorry.

I don't actually know but if it helps you troubleshoot, the collectors edition used emulation for the games. That means the .N64 files exist within the game assets somewhere and probably have to be extracted

you would have to find a way to dump the disc on your computer. Which is pretty difficult, since it's not a standard sized disc.

I've been keeping an eye on the decompilation, so this is quite the surprise. is this based on the recompilation, or did they secretly finish the decomp but aren't sharing? they don't seem like the non-sharing type so...

Zelda 64 remasters in 2024? What a time to be alive 😁

Just started using the '2ship2harkinian' EXE after navigating to my Majora's Mask rom and building the o2r and noticed there being quite a bit of judder compared to the Zelda64Recomp remaster.

2Ship2Harkinian is based on the decompilation. The recompilation was released a couple weeks back.

Are either this or the recomp version likely to ever have save states? This is a game, if one ever existed, where the ability to pause and resume later would be nice.

I don’t have my hopes up for this one since Harkinian doesn’t, but what about the recomp?

I don't believe it has save states, but it does bring back OoT's save system to allow you to save from any location, so it's at least a step closer than the original game.

Has anyone tried this on Steam Deck?
Gonna x to doubt, mostly because these projects aren’t using any of the Big N’s code or assets.

Also, I am chuffed to bits that this works perfectly on my Steam Deck, controls working out of the box and everything
@The Catboy has the rundown. I may have missed others that have confirmed compatibility.

Working out of the box just fine on my Steam Deck. Controls working out of the box, screen filled as well. It runs like it’s a native Linux game

Huh, funny how both projects released less than a month from each other. I will say tho, the recompiler project will probably have more of a general sudo-emulator use with less features. I will look closely on how both projects go, N64 emulation has always been in a really bad place for such an old console, so it's good we can get some better tools now

Was waiting for this to be released and the time has come!

The decompilation project didn't work for me at all it just closes without warnings or error messages, so its useless.

Hope this one will do it for me, as its more resource friendly than the other.

Awesome work!

I desperately want save states for this game in particular. Hopefully *one* of them will have it.

The MacOS version still has audio issues (Mainly crackles and stutters), even more so than SoH.
I sure wish I had the skills to help them sort that out.. But audio is difficult and I am just average at best in programming.

More options are a good thing. No one is forcing you to play with those options enabled
Good answer, you think of that all by yourself??

If you actually read what I said... Some people like it, just not me.... Which I was asked directly about by someone else!

Next time, try to chime in with with worthwhile conversation. Once your finished with all those options of course... :rofl2:
