I have been playing a DSi XL recently which I got two years back from Japan. I installed CFW (or whatever the homebrew enabler is on that platform, I just know it boots into a menu screen with the front of a boat in the background) a while back, though I usually just boot into the normal menu.

I have been having a problem with it recently, however. I find that sometimes, when I turn it on or take it out of sleep, that the bottom screen won't light up. The touch screen still works, so the digitizer is fine, but either the backlight or the LCD don't fire up, so most games are made unplayable.

I thought the screen was dead, and was going to buy a replacement, but then I came back to it and found the screen was working again. However, the behavior started again last night, after being in sleep mode. The screen seems to be working then, but there is something else that is a problem evidently.

Can anyone give me advice on resolving this problem? If it just comes to buying a new screen then fine, I'm just worried that the problem will come back.

I've let it sit for a week or so. The screen turns on and functions normally for about 20-30 minutes, and then it turns off and won't turn back on. I suspect that if I leave the console to sit for a while longer, then the bottom screen will turn on again, but undoubtedly it will fail again.

Does anybody know what might cause the bottom screen to work only after sitting for some time, and then cause it to stop working after some period of operation? I'm thinking of just buying an extra screen to test it, I'm just worried as above that it won't solve the problem (also I'd be bummed if it was the screen, took me forever to find a DSi XL in burgundy that had two good screens without a lot of yellowing)

Were you able to find a solution?

The times I've heard about this problem it's either a faulty display or related to the potentiometers in the battery compartment. Display-related issues seem to be a very hard thing to diagnose and fix when they aren't outright busted.
