It sure is a thing. There should be a collapsible panel in the bottom right corner of your screen on desktop, but if you're having trouble finding it, there's also a dedicated page for it:

There used to be an IRC channel, but it was replaced by this.

I think the shoutbox, chatbox, whatever, has existed since I've been here (2008ish), can't remember tbh. But yeah.

Yeah, the old IRC channel used to be called the shoutbox. It has now been replaced by chat.

Uhh...not quite, they were two separate entities. The shoutbox was just a basic integrated chatbox that was available on the main forum, the IRC was a completely separate IRC server for the Temp.

The shoutbox still exists in the form of the chatbox, but the official IRC was closed as per Costello's post here.

Yeah, the closest thing to the IRC channel would be the current Discord server imho..

Tbf, most stuff and groups I used to follow on IRC channels moved on Discord.
