"Smash Remix", romhack of Super Smash Bros. for N64, updated to version 1.3.0

The famous Smash Bros. 64 hack, Smash Remix, which brings new life into the beloved N64 classic that started the Smash franchise by adding new characters, stages and a lot of new options, has been updated to the latest v1.3.0.
This new update's biggest additions are two new playable characters, King Dedede from the Kirby franchise, and newcomer Marina from Mischief Makers. The developers also included new polygon versions of the new characters that have been added with this hack, to go alongside the 12 ones from the original game.

Other new additions include a whole new revamped model for Young Link, with assets and items more closely tied to Majora's Mask (as seen on his new Mirror Shield). As for stages, Dracula's Castle and Mt. Dedede have been added as a new stages. There are also a whole new slew of other options available from the Remix settings.

For those interested in the full changelog of the hack (which is quite extensive), can head over to the GitHub Release page of v1.3.0 to check each and every new feature or fix added into this build.

A "version update" of an N64 romhack is front page news? Must be a slow news month.

To be fair, it's a really good romhack, not often you see hacks of N64 games with such dedication, and better yet, adding whole new characters with full animations into them. I think it's worth mentioning both for those who already knew about it, and for those that didn't, now can enjoy this great hack with the latest release.

Also, I forgot to post the actual video trailer for the release, which has such attention to detail and is quite fun to watch, so I have added it to the OP.

I just got done running this romhack on my OP5 Android box and to my surprise it runs amazingly well. After playing a few sessions, I can say that I learned at least one thing though: Conker has now become my new fav character, lol (chainsaw go buzz, buzz; iykyk)... All the character models for each of the bonus characters are pretty much on point. This is a very well designed mod.

Didn't know about this rom hack but gave it a go yesterday. Very impressive what they put into the original series entry. Their website also somehow has the rompatcher.js imbedded as it seems so it was super easy to patch it inside the browser and download the rom ready to go. :)

What happens when you want to play Smash Bros. with the newest characters but you can’t afford for a Nintendo Switch? THIS happens. An hack of the first Smash game with new characters/stages.

ik this isn't smash remix related but i remember that scam where someone accepted donations for a smash bros "hack" they were making and they literally edited and cut the footage to show the second character selection screen with the "new" characters which said characters were literal reskins of existing 64 characters. Good times.

Oh, this is are some good, fresh news today. I got the 1.1 version and it is very fun to play. Will have to look into this one.

On a side note, I have tried modding Brawl a couple of times but it always freezes and I have never been able to play it, sadly.

Cool stuff. It's nice to see a character from a Treasure game make it into Smash, even if it is a mod, I love their games.

I wonder if the Smash Remix devs would consider adding the Doomguy as a playable character, maybe using his Doom 64 appearance? I've always wanted to see him in a Smash game but lack the spriting/modeling skills to do it myself.

I didn't know people still like the N64 smash bros so much. All I hear is Melee talk and sometimes ultimate. :ninja:
Smash 64 is my favorite N64 game. Just today I played it via emulator on my PC, that was so much fun!

I even tweaked with the graphics settings and it ended up looking better and run smoother.
