Well, the original author who ported PicoDrive stopped supporting PicoDriveDS. I know jEnesisDS is more recent, but it isn't supported anymore. Also, PicoDriveDS has a source available, but jEnesisDS doesn't.
Also, PicoDriveDS uses software rendering (which although it's slow, allows horizontal scrolling), and could be optimized to run better than jEnesisDS on hardware rendering. It could also be optimized for the iPlayer/SCDS2. And it really needs sound.
Is there an unofficial version of PicoDriveDS available? If so, where can I get it?
If there isn't, is it safe to expect a new Genesis emulator optimized for the iPlayer/SCDS2?
 
my guess is that the scds2 team will not make emulators from scratch, but tweak open sourced ones...

trust them or ask for help in some linux/homebrew driven community with affinity with the DS (maybe someone on the dingoo forums)
