Hello,

how do you see the Steam Deck changing the Console market in particular in relation to Nintendos plans to potentially releasing a new console in the coming years?

Nintendo is always a generation behind in terms of console hardware, so the "Super Switch" may be a hybrid between a PS3 and PS4 or something like it.

Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Kirby, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Splatoon etc... Steam deckdont. Their consoles will probably continue to be console/handheld hybrids.

Nintendo needs not to even bother to compete, the Deck even being as "powerful" as it is, it's just another emulation device, without original content. And considering the Deck's price in comparison with the Switch's, we all know which one will keep selling on top of any other console out there.

What? Steam has an infinite number of games.

Exclusives aren't everything.

Missing the point of the thread. Nintendo doesn't worry about Steam or try to change what they're doing because they have plenty of exclusives. That is what they've lived on since N64. To them exclusives are everything that's why they don't put their games on PC. If their games were on Steam Deck no one would buy a Switch or Switch 2. But because you can't get them anywhere else the millions of people who want those games have to.

Also third party support for Switch has been better than any Nintendo console since Super Nintendo. So they don't need to worry about anything.

The Switch is cheaper than the Steam Deck and doesn't involve needing a reservation. That's not including the games you're buying, though Steam Deck has the benefit of the Summer/Winter sales. As stated already, Nintendo's got pretty powerful exclusives that (mostly) run well on the system compared to the still progressing emulation scene.

Not sure about this my steam deck runs every game i play on switch just fine
most people just use the emudeck quick installation and make that same claim not realizing what it actually does. probably doesn't help that most of them have also most likely never played a switch. while there are exceptions just like any emulator you HAVE to downscale most games by atleast 0.75x or more so assuming a game is 720P you will be playing at 540P instead

And some people know how to setup emulators and own both systems

Yea not all games run great like BOTW runs at 20 - 30 fps but Metroid runs at 60 fps and looking at the game running side by side on switch and deck i cant tell the difference except some outlines seem a lil different on deck

And another thing thats nice about emulation on the deck is you can run cheat engines and memory editors to mod stuff normally not doable on switch

Yea im not saying deck is gonna replace switch but u can play “some” switch games without noticing any difference in gameplay

literally just said there are exceptions just like any emulator. people always focus on the few exceptions whenever an emulator runs poorly to make it seem better than it is.you can "know how to setup an emulator" all you want it doesn't change the fact its not as good as people pretend it is. you also reply as if I'm saying switch is better then steam deck or some shit. no I have both and being realistic unlike people who feel the need to protect their purchase. also FYI Edizon IS a memory editor D'OH

The steam deck can't even connect to a 4K tv without having problems in Game OS. It's no threat to the switch.

The game OS is crap, and it being Linux will turn off a LOT of other people with trying to get games to run.

I'm actually about to try Windows on mine when I get a new SD card in.

Nintendo is for kids and adults, tech savvy or not. Steam deck is for rich adult with very high tech pain threshold. The it just work without much effort camp won't be buying steam deck (except the misguided ones, very sad for them, but they are rich so the money means nothing to them so perhaps it's OK).

This may change over time, Nintendo probably have some activity in their lab, don't think anything will be released until that change took place.
