OpenHCL is a fanmade, cross-platform port of E. (Buster) Hashimoto's Hydra Castle Labyrinth.
It is a metroidvania game, similar to The Maze of Galious.

This thread is for the Wii version, but it is also available for the 3DS, Vita and PSP.

This version features:
- 240p mode for CRT televisions.
- Controllable with wiimote, nunchuk, gamecube, and classic controllers.

Thanks for porting this little indie gem to the wii!!
It didn't work for me on usb (black screen).
It worked only on sd
Edit:
It also works as a wiiflow plugin. I'll try to make a fullcover for it (not easy given the lack of any artwork)

@JeffRuLz Thanks for this port, but...

Does it work on USB? Because my friend @Zorg1996 tried to load it from a forwarder WAD that he made for load it (he was using @XFlak's ModMii Forwarder Builder) but it didn't work (black screen).

Any help?
Is it just a forwarder wad or is the .dol file compiled inside of it?
Right now the game needs to be launched from the same directory as the data files. If it's just a forwarder then I think it should work, but if the game is packed inside of the .wad then it probably can't find the files.

@JeffRuLz
it's an inserted forwarder DOL (obviously made with @XFlak's ModMii) into a WAD (which supported AHBPROT of course.)
(If you don't know what i'm saying, i say that the forwarder DOL inserted into it only loads the boot.dol specified in the path in the forwarder. (i only made a forwarder, not a complete WAD xD)
And yes, the OpenHCL loads from USB if launched from HBC, but not from a forwarder.

Have u tried launching it from usb via the hbc?

Edit: because it should work via the hbc, as reported by what's his face
@XFlak
Yep, when using USB it launches via HBC (Homebrew Channel) but not via forwarder WAD nor DOL.
Help?

@JeffRuLz

For try to reproduce the problem by yourself, I will attach the forwarder WAD used for load OpenHCL. @Zorg1996 made it, he gave me authorization for share it for testing purposes. He's using your latest version of OpenHCL, but still won't load (black screen), however it loads from HBC.

Tell me if you can encounter any problems.

EDIT: The OpenHCL doesn't load from that forwarder i attached when loading from USB, however it loads from SD. OpenHCL on USB only works when loaded from HBC.

@SaulFabre can you try with this version? I was unable to test it because I replaced my main Wii with a WiiU, and it seems my spare emulation Wii isn't set up to use usb with homebrew apps (usbloader works but the homebrew channel and fceugx doesn't detect it).

I modified it so it will attempt to load the data files from these locations:
"./"
"sd:/apps/OpenHCL/"
"sd:/OpenHCL/"
"usb:/apps/OpenHCL/"
"usb:/OpenHCL/"

If this doesn't work then I'm not sure what else to do.

Hello, how about telling you that with this new update of the boot.dol now the game if we place it on a USB it runs perfectly by launching it from the channel forwarder that I did. Thank you very much for the help to @XFlak , @SaulFabre and especially to @JeffRuLz for the port of this great game. 😁

I can confirm that your update test for the OpenHCL Wii with USB support now works when loaded from a forwarder WAD.

Here my friend @Zorg1996 tested it:

It seems to force 16:9 with pillarboxing. I'm using vWii in 480p 4:3 on a CRT PC monitor. In the game options I can't change video, it's stuck at 480p. What can I do to make it work in proper 4:3? (The image is already horizontally stretched 100% on the monitor).

After I close the game, even the Wii menu and other homebrew change to pillarbox until I leave to Wii U menu and back to vWii.

What input are you using? Wii U only uses HDMI as principal input, and AV is a secondary input. Make sure to use AV for connect your 480p TV.

I am using a Wii component cable and a GBS control. Wii U content is letterboxed, as expected, and Wii displays in proper 4:3 until I launch OpenHCL, which seems to force 16:9 and even change vWii's aspect ratio.

Component input can also bring 720p/1080p qualities, but AV only allows up to 480p. Could you try AV instead of Component?

Unfortunately I can't. I don't have a composite cable, and the GBS Control wouldn't work with composite video anyway.

But 240p does work in this setup with Playstation One games on my PS2 and some PS2 240p games as well. Maybe it's something related to the Wii U? I also tried changing the TV resolution on the Wii U settings to 480i, but openHCL keeps forcing this pillarboxed image nonetheless.
