Hi there !
I recently got an recurrent problem in pokemon ultra moon , everytime I randomaly encounter a certain pokemon or when I wanna name a new pokemon the game freeze with a luma message :
An error occurred (ErrDisp)
Error type: generic

Process ID : 38
Process name : Momiji
Process title ID : 0x0004000001b5100

Address : 0x00346e74
Error code : 0xd900458b

Im using an old 2ds and idk how to fix that or what is the main problem...
It's NOT a problem of .cia file cause im using an official gamecard and it's also NOT a corruption save file because with my non-hacked 3ds XL it works perfectly fine :/

Hope that someone can help me ^^"

Is your game the same region as the 3DS, do you have a seed folder on the root of the SD for the game?

Try to download from another source.

Check region as well.

It would appear that 3DS game cards (Pokémon in particular) are dying https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-fans-say-nintendo-3ds-games-dying/ could be the beginning of the end for yours...

a bit more information about your setup might help too. (are you using a bootloader, any plugins, etc.)

a quick google on this issue seems to show that the issue is from no imported seed, corrupted save data, or an sd card read error. the first two don't apply to you since you're using a cartridge confirmed to work on another console, so try removing and inserting the sd card first. (i don't think that makes much sense now that i think about it but it seems to have worked for one person)

if that doesn't work, update to the latest luma if you haven't already.

if that still doesn't work, you're going to want to make a FRESH backup of your entire sd card as well as your save data. then, wipe the sd card and install only the latest version of luma3ds and try to replicate the issue. hopefully that works, then you'll know something on your sd card was interfering, and you can begin to replace things gradually.

Well, that eliminates those possibilitites, you can dump it if you're on CFW with GodMode9, it could be the case of the chip going bad like what we've seen recently..

Well dumping it could be hard since i know recent pokemon games have an anti piracy system and i don't wanna bother with that

But also i dont think its the problem of the chip cause i already tested many times on my non-moded 3ds xl but also with another non-moded 2ds and its definitely working perfectly with them but not the same case for my moded 2ds

Ok thanks im gonna try to uptade luma and if it doesn't work i may just transfert all in another SD card to see if it was the actual problem ^^"

Alright, you can try the digital version without dumping the game then, with the seed file in the folder, it should be the same as your cart as its region free - even if you swap savefile from the US version (i test it myself)- and see if it works.

I am going to agree with trying an actual ROM to see whether the problem persists.

There's no point trying to defend the existing Hardware because a combination of said existing Factors is causing the problem.
So the best solution is to eliminate one by one every possibility; the Game might work perfectly with every other Hardware but that's not the question, is it.

Once you have that established then I'm sure plenty of helpful people here will be able to whittle down the problem down for you.

Just search on google, there's a seed database that have the seed file of USUM and some others, look for the title ID of the game (EU or NA its the same 'cause it's Region Free) and put it on the folder.
Also you don't necessarily need the seed file if you want to play the game without the update installed, as only the update requires it.

I know this is an old thread but did any of this solve it for you? im having the exact same problem while playing ultra moon on my 3ds, the only differences are the address and error code. Specifically exiting one of the shops in akala island causes it to happen, then pressing random different buttons just makes the console die for a while, i cant turn it on (the blue light turns on then fades), then after some time im able to boot it up again and its all normal until i play the game again and exit that same shop. And also, my game is pirated, but since you have the original one I dont think thats the cause.

What error code? Arm11 or ErrDisp?

Sounds like a different issue.. I would check the sd card with h2testw.
Also, if the fading blue appears when the sd card is not inserted then it's definitely a hardware problem. Most likely the sd card reader.

its ErrDisp. Everything is the same, only the address and error code at the end are different. I found that if a crash occurs, If i remove and reinsert the sd card I can turn on the console again. The error seems to be happening only when playing pokemon UM. Im going to make a backup of the contents of the sd card and check it with h2test like you said.

It gave me a reading error on one of the .h2w files when i first tried without wiping the sd card and formatting it. Then i emptied all the contents, quick formatted, and It finished without errors. Not sure what to do now
