OP
i am using Mame2003-Plus and FinalBurn Neo

i want to use the MAME in-game cheats that show from the Dip Switch in game menu

i tried to copy the cheat.dat file to many places inside retroarch like:
System/mame2003-plus
System/Mame
System/Bios

the database never get detected inside the core

if someone manage to make mame cheats show up, please share where you copied the cheat database inside retroarch and what you did to enable them

if there is a cheat converter to make the cheats work in chd format, i would like a link to tutorial
i just want cheats for some shmups like, Salamander 2, Xexex, Gradius 2

Have you solved the problem?, I put the cheat.dat file in the system / mame2003 folder, and at the moment of entering a game the emulator freezes completely, someone can help, I'm in the latest version of Retroarch

No, bought GPD Win Max for playing retroarch emulators and never looked back at switch emulation
i don't think M.A.M.E built in cheats work with nintendo switch Retroarch, even the documentation in lebirto website fail to explain how to do it and nobody in the GBATemp is wants to look into it

It takes very long for switch to load mame cheat.dat file bc there are so many cheats in the file. That is why there is a black screen (the switch is NOT frozen, lol). Instead, copy and paste the cheats u need and save it as a new cheat.dat file. The load will be considerably shorter. I tried this last night with SSF2T rom in mame 2003 plus and it worked!!

In which folder did you put the cheat.dat?
I put it in here: /retroarch/cheats/MAME 2003-Plus
and Retroarch doesn't find it.

Put the cheat file here in this folder ( i think the score.dat file is also in here)::
System/mame2003-plus

Just make sure to edit the cheat.dat file so it only has the cheats for the games you will play, otherwise it takes long to load. I only used it with SSFT2 Turbo (usa rom). It still takes almost 45 seconds, lol.

Thank you. Anyway, the correct location (at least in my case) is: /retroarch/cores/system/mame2003-plus

I just want to mention that this problem only started on a somewhat recent build of the mame cores. Well, it’s been so long I guess it’s not that recent anymore. I believe 1.8 introduced the issue.

On an earlier build I had everything working on my switch. Mame 2003 and 2003+. Cheats (the entire list of all games) for both cores. Everything loaded up pretty much instantly.

Now RA is just slower overall on my switch and cheats cause a hard lock up/black screen.

Is there a way to get older builds of RA? The buildbot only has 1.9.0 and 1.9.1

Also someone posted an issue for this on the GitHub but it has gone unanswered or fixed.
