...I'm just not sure anymore. I didn't question myself before because the prices of GPUs were pretty bad, but when I saw the RTX 30 line, even the RTX 3070, was much stronger than the 2080Ti in overall power (not including other advancements) at a far reduced price, I was taken aback. For the same price as a Series X, I could get the 3070. Granted that I'd need to build a computer from scratch, but the GPU has typically been the most expensive part, and now it has gotten cheaper. I currently use a laptop for my computing (Inspiron 7577 i5 w/ 1060MQ) over the desktop I gave away long ago because I preferred the smaller form factor and portability (I guess the Switch is to blame).

Of course this may all be for naught because while I could build my own computer with a decent budget, it's all a question on whether I'd use it to its fullest. Even though my laptop is still somewhat capable, I rarely play PC games as I mainly game on my Switch (mostly on the TV), and my work schedule doesn't really give me much time outside my weekend to just indulge in long gaming sessions. The Series X choice was mainly to see if it would hold enough interest in the kind of games it offers (both new and old as I never owned a Microsoft console before), and it's a full gaming system for just $500. Building a computer, even with GPUs priced cheaper than before, is still a heavy investment. It wouldn't be something I'd put on a desk either as I just don't have the room in my apartment for a dedicated computer gaming environment (one other reason I gave away my old desktop in favor of using my laptop). It would be connected to my TV (TCL 55" P605), so it wouldn't really be something I'd play games with a keyboard/mouse on.

I built a very powerful pc and I didn’t finish any game on it hehe ..... to be honest when you have a powerful pc and the games looks good wont make you want to play for long time ....... you would just give yourself a 5 min tour in good graphics park and then leave as quickly as your money left your wallet hehe.

I will say go with ps5 and xbox series x.

your current pc is powerful than Nintendo switch as well and you rarely play on pc hehe which means games is what is matter.

As a person who has a competent gaming pc, I'd say convenience is everything. Sure, I might get better graphics on pc and the games might be cheaper but.. there are a ton of inconveniences.
  • Pc has like 5 platforms you may have to launch a game from even if you buy games from one store.
  • Optimization. I've never had the best luck with default settings. Either are too high for stability or too low for visuals. Can take away from the immersiveness, take vr as an extreme example
  • Bugs. "Oh, the anticheat didn't start correctly? Guess I have to restart my computer" "Looks like I have to install shaders again"
  • Less casual, theres something nice about just picking up a controller and starting up a game.
  • Incompatibility. Have a switch controller you want to use? Use Steam to bind the controls. The game isn't supported by steam? You have to install a third party driver and setup the controller again
  • Using a pc on a tv from the couch is a pain in the ass. Never would recommend a person doing it.
I could go on and on, but if you really aren't one to spend a lot of time doing researching, setup and waiting, consoles are a great choice, especially at the $300 price point. This is coming from someone who does a lot of video/photography work on a "gaming" computer.

Seems like you already cemented your answer in your post: you rarely play PC games, you prefer smaller form factors, and you don't have the space for a desktop. So why build a gaming PC at all, then?

As a PC gamer I always advocate building a PC over consoles just because you get so much more out of a gaming PC than you will any console any day of the week, but if you already know you're not that interested in it then you might as well just opt for the console. Both the Series X and PS5 are going to be great value for the hardware you get (unlike "current" gen stuff, which was basically obsolete the day they launched), so if you want to keep up with "next gen" games either one would be a fine purchase. (I wouldn't bother with the Series S unless you specifically can't afford a Series X though, the performance gap between the two is going to be bigger than people think).

I wouldn't say I'm cemented in not building a PC. I had said that I got rid of my previous desktop because of various reasons, some which can be remedied. Not having a desk to put it on doesn't mean I couldn't do something like connect it to my TV and put it in my entertainment center. One thing I didn't mention was how my previous desktop was massive (I got the case cheap). Could certainly build one in a smaller form factor if I wished.

However, I do agree with what GoldenBullet mentioned, convenience is a major factor for me, so I guess it depends on whether using a PC in a manner I'm thinking of would be convenient enough to go that route.

My recommendation is the PS5 digital edition, but I also want to say not to get carried away with the Nvidia hype too much. Unless you have an 8K TV, it would be wise to wait till AMD releases their cards as I think they have something even more special this time.
