Would you mind elaborating on what's optimized between v7 and the upcoming v8 port? In other words, is it a Big Deal? I've been holding off on a v7 SM64 replay. It's clear this fanmade version is going to be superior to the upcoming retail release.

Not sure what all will be new in v8, but don't feel like you have to wait for the next release. v7 is already great and your save will probably be compatible with v8 (The previous versions kept your save at least).

In short, If you want to play SM64 just do it! No point in waiting for the next release. It's already a huge improvement over playing in an emulator.

I'm currently playing the port and I have to say: It's really well done!

Have played the first 4 worlds so far an seen very little bugs in Verion7 so far:

  • Bob-omb Battlefield: one of the canons (the ones shooting bubles) on the mountain is not visible

  • Jolly Roger Bay: After the ship is lifted back to the surface a star is revealed on the gound of the sea. It's not accessible due to the bubbles which push you away. (It's only accessible after you get the green cap). The animations/objects of the bubbles seem to be missing in version 7 though. It seems like you are beeing pushed away by an invisible wall when you try to reach the star.

Are these things which are going to be fixed in future versions?

You can report them on the jits discord, the dev team watches the mario 64 discussion channel there for bugs or suggestions
