I'm currently playing through Super Mario Sunshine on Dolphin and was thinking the transition from upscaled resolution to whatever original low resolution format the cut scenes are is rather jarring, they look terrible on modern displays. What with the new ports coming out assuming the cuscenes are of higher quality would it be possible to extract higher quality versions of the cutscene files and replace the old ones in the ISO file?

So you want to take cutscenes from a switch game and insert them into a gamecube game to play on Dolphin???

Sounds ridiculously pointless, just buy a switch man......

Following as if it is possible then it wouldn't be limited to just switch cutscenes which means I could add higher quality cutscenes for Resident evil games

Probably not. The Switch releases will probably either

1: Be rendered in-engine, and wouldn't work in the old engine, or would be identical because the models would be the same, so you'd have to somehow update the models, or..
2: Be encoded in a different video codec than the original game used, which would require changing a lot of code to handle the newly encoded video, not even considering whether or not the dated hardware of the Gamecube could handle said new codec.

Your playing it on dolphin then just download a texture pack for it and maybe they upscaled the Cutscenes also

I own a Switch, but I don't fancy paying £50 to play inferior versions of 3 games I already own. Was just a thought after seeing how horrible the old gamecube cutscenes look on modern displays.

So obviously we don't know what the situation will be at the moment but I imagine they're either just going to leave them as they are or upscale them, I doubt they'd redo the cutscenese inengine.
I'm assuming it would need recoding, but surely it can't be that hard to convert into the original codec? Or maybe even a different one supported in Dolphin which was the idea.

Dolphin/texture packs don't affect the cutscenes

I suppose you could re-encode them pretty easily if they were FMV, but you'd have to reverse engineer the codec the game used, because Nintendo certainly hasn't openly released that data. But if they're in-engine, the only thing bringing those cutscenes over would change is the animations, if even compatible.

Your actually pretty wrong check resident evil 2 texture pack they also done cutscenes with AI Upscaling and trust me looks amazing how they did it and yeah it's possible they have a link just for the Cutscenes

Also if I'm not mistaken I'm sure Sunshine is in game engine but there are actually non in game cutscenes and yeah you can have them upscaled also

There will be a way I mean

Ah I just sort of assumed they'd be some sort of common codec or video file, maybe I'll have to find them off a gamecube iso and take a look.

Interesting I didn't know texture packs could change the cutscenes, I just assumed that because the texture pack I'm using for sunshine hsan't touched the cutscenese it was just for the actual game textures. Wonder how they'll be in the Switch version

Anyone's solution to an emulation problem being 'just buy the official release' doesn't understand the point of emulation in many scenarios

It take you four years to think of that?? :rofl2:

Considering its impossible anyway (maybe too strong a word but look into it, this is seriously old news) and that 'the point of emulation' wasn't the question, then I was correct if the op wanted switch cutscenes.

In future try to input something new and worthwhile to a 4 year old post please.
