Hey, I'm using my DS Lite with an R4 card to try and back up GBA games, my copy of Yoshi's Island crashes the backup tool and freezes the DS so I have to turn it on and off. The game runs fine, sometimes telling my the save is corrupt but a cotton bud brushed through the inside fixes it more often than not. Does anyone know why the tool just gives up?

It freezes on a white screen with the blue bars (image shown). The game card is a little iffy and sometimes says the save data is corrupt but still always launches, and the save data thing is fixed if I run a cotton bud over the inside of the card. I had the same issue with Spyro 2 but after a couple tries it worked, Yoshi just won't work though. I at least want to backup the save file because I love that game to pieces. I'd love it if anyone can help!

Are you sure your cart is original and not a pirate? An easy (but not necessarily 100% reliable) way to check would be to look at the edge of the circuit board (right above the pins) for the Nintendo logo.

That isn't true anymore I have a repro that has the proper printing in that location

Even then its still pretty easy to tell its a repo because it says ninlendo not nintendo there is no line through the t and the e is wrong as well .

Official nintendo one for comparison

I checked and it is a pirated copy which I didn't know, but I was able to backup my bootleg copy of Mario Kart.

Different bootlegs made in different facilities might very well have different quality. I expect even cartridges made in the same facility might not necessarily be made consistently.

Bootlegs are notorious for having buggy save capabilities. I kind of doubt the cotton bud is doing much and it's probably just a matter of luck when it comes to whether it works or not.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
