Certain PS4 peripherals will work on the PS5, but the DualShock 4 will not be supported by new games

5580915_sd.jpg

In a handful of days, we'll see some new footage of future PlayStation 4 games, but in the meantime, if you're still interested in PlayStation 5 news, the PlayStation Blog published a new article regarding how existing accessories will work with the next-gen console. USB headsets, the PS Move and Aim controllers, fight sticks, the PlayStation Camera, and racing wheels for the PS4 will be compatible with the PS5 going forward. An official adapter for the PlayStation Camera will be made available, to allow for it to work on the PlayStation 5 and let players use it for PS VR games. However, the DualShock 4 controller will not work with the PlayStation 5's games, as Sony believes that the new features of the DualSense are integral to the system. When it comes to backward-compatible PS4 games, though, the controller will be supported. Conversely, Microsoft has already confirmed that existing Xbox One gamepads will be compatible with the Xbox Series X, while the next-gen controller will even work on the Xbox One as well.

Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?

  • Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
  • The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
  • The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
  • Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
Please note, not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories may work on PS5. We recommend checking with the manufacturer to confirm whether a product will work on PS5 and specific titles.

Wow, almost like new consoles never use controllers from the previous system. They're specifically saying that at least some things will, and y'all call that greedy.
I don't get what's wrong with you lot sometimes
If you are not getting it then you are just not even trying to.

Gamecube controllers are compatible on Switch even tho they have less buttons. Wii controllers and all the attachements (classic, pro etc) were compatible on the Wii U. XSX will be compatible with the Xbox one controllers, even the XSX controllers will be compatible with the Xbox One.
Why ? Because these controllers are almost the exact same thing so it doesn't matter, so you can just grab whatever Xbox controller you own and use it.

Every time somebody says that "oh but it's about the fUnCtIoNaLiTiEs", they can't say one functionality that needs to be mandatory for the PS4 controllers to absolutely be incompatible. Also be prepared to see DS4 knock-offs being recognized as DS5 controllers and working as a real DS4 controller should.

And what's funny is that I'm sure that disabling the use of DS4 actually requires work. Nothing will change for the Xbox controllers because they still use Xinput, they are still using bluetooth, they are still using whatever technology they have to connect on consoles and PC so who cares just use whatever you want and it's convenient, and it's the same for Dualshocks, except they want to blacklist DS4 controllers so you can't just give the old DS4 controller to your friend when he comes by. I just do not get why "special" controllers like sticks and stuff will be compatible but not the regular DS4 if it's not because they just don't want you to use it.

They just don't care about players at that point. I'm neither a Playstation nor an Xbox guy (well tbh the PS2 was the first console I have ever owned but I'm more of a PC/Nintendo guy) so I'm just watching Microsoft and Sony pulling their moves so I can judge but if I'm being honest I can't say that the PS5 is better. I'm just really afraid that people are still defending such practices just because they feel the need to defend their need of buying something they still do not know the price. Whatever the games comes next, for now (at least, to me) the best product is obviously the XSX.

Hopefully they fix the drifting problems with the new one.
Laughable that my old gamecube controllers that cost 30$ still work perfectly while my 60$ DS4 controller have begun to drift.
Problems like that are the first things that should be found with simulated intensive use during development, there is no excuse.
Ontop of that they added features no one asked for like the touchbar and overly bright led which contribute to shit battery life.

This. I've had drift issues with my joy-cons, but way more of my DS3s & DS4s suffered drift. Even sent one in to get fixed, starting drifting again after a month.

People can vote with their money. If Sony has an attitude you don't like regarding backward compatibility for peripherals, then don't buy the PS5, and let them know why on their forum.
Voting with your money isn't a thing. If a product can appeal to enough people that don't care, then it will be a success, and there's nothing anybody can do about it

Yes, but Sony still didn't get any money from that person that decided to not buy the PS5 because of shitty policy regarding backward compatibility for peripherals. They'll survive as a company, but with one less customer. There are a few places in my city (restaurants, stores) that I don't patronize anymore, because I got shitty service the last time I went there. They're still open, so they survived. Good for them, but I have nothing to do with their success, and that suits me just fine.

OMG this is so stupid, it's a controller, its universal controlling device,. I sense some gimmicks like VR or motions or blowing into it or whatever..
It seems that lately i hear bunch of stupid news. Only good new i heard lately is Nin10doh leaks.
Gaming companies really do things backward lately, no wander people are hacking them and their hardware. Serves them well if you ask me!

I think everyone is taking it backward.

It's not important that the OLD controller work on NEW console.
it's normal to me that new console has its own new controller, and that you don't use old controllers.

If it's about backward compatibility:
When did you use PS2 controller on PS3?
When did you use SNES controller on Wii VC. you use the wiimote. nintendo designed the wii with GC controller, at least it was an option on first models.
Usually, the new hardware should adapt to let you play old games.

What you should wonder is whether you will NEED a PS4 controller to play backward compatible games, or if the PS5 controller will work.
If you don't own a PS4, and you want to play a PS4 game, will you NEED to buy a PS4 controller? you know, games weren't designed to communicate with a DS5. Like you could use only some buttons of the DS4 on PS3. PS3 games aren't fully compatible with DS4. why would PS4 games be compatible with DS5?
But, the main problem is do you need to buy OLD accessories to play old games?

Will the PSVR2 or the PS5 Camera work with PSVR/PS4 games, or will you NEED to also buy a PS4 camera /VR headset to play PS4 games?

At least, they will "provide a Camera adapter for free" to use the PS4 camera, But only for PS4 games. they didn't tell if the adapter will let us use the PS4 camera with PS5 games. Nor if the PS5 camera will work with PS4 games...
So, you'll probably need both camera.

Sony always provide half information.

Honestly already was expecting this. Sony is not customer friendly company and they just want to force people to buy their next console. Like they made PS5 huge by purpose of having and excusive to release a "slim" version of ps5 in 2 years time with slight upgrades for justifying people buying just like they did with ps4 and ps4 pro.

At this point Sony is probably convinced that they can do almost anything they want and get away with it, and the worst part is that they might be right. They have been pulling increasingly worse anti-consumer moves since the beginning of the PS3 life-cycle and no one really cared.

To make things worse, Microsoft seems to be making some of the same mistakes they made with the XB1 launch, so Sony is probably already counting the money from the pre-orders, since people seem to think they'll spontaneously combust or something if they don't get the newest totally-not-a-pc-with-capped-firmware and play the latest reskin of the dozen or so game "formats" that barely changed in the last 10 years. Makes me glad that I gave up on non-portable consoles a long time ago.

I wonder if my Brook Adapter will work which allows me to use my steering wheel meant for Xbox 360/PC on PS4, on PS5.

I hate Sony with this Bull*** , but anyhow When Mark Cerny showcased the PS5 capabilities explaining how the PS4 would work with it, he did explain that there would be a legacy mode for the PS5 to support PS4/Pro games so when I seen this article that's what I instantly thought off. Sony be giving outs hints and I knew from the jump but how do people be surprised by stuff like this? Once the PS5 comes out the PS4 will be considered old but I agree they could've atleast made it compatible with PS5. The layout is slightly altered but it would've made no dfference what so ever...

makes sense, the new dualshock has some new features so if games depend on them then they cant be using old DS4, anyway who has picked up and used a DS3 since the PS4 came out?
