My PS4 started having this problem recently with no reason at all. I have to press on the power button multiple times for it to start. Sometimes, replugging the cord to the wall works. Anyways, once booted, it just shuts down (hard power off) after some time automatically. Sometimes the power button on the PS4 or the PS Button on DS4 consistently fail to power the PS4 On. I have to wait for sometime then and try again. At times, it works and other times, it doesn’t.

I tried rebuilding database and initialising but the PS4 shuts down midway. I have also tried cleaning the dust both on the fan and the power supply. What could be the issue and how to fix it? From the details, any way to say if it’s the APU or the PSU or something else altogether?

I don’t know if it means something. I have found that the PS4 when it decides to switch on takes more time than usual to the power button press or PS button on DS4. And, when I tried to open the PSU to clean it, I received an electric shock on touching one of the points even though it was disconnected from the power source completely.

UPDATE 1 - After having left the PS4 alone for almost a day, I tried switching it on and it works properly. I tried switching it off and trying to start it again both after replugging and without replugging. But, the power button seems to be slow to respond soon after plugging cord into wall i.e., the power button responds only after 10-20s after the power plug has been connected. But, if I were to start the PS4 after switching it off keeping it plugged in all this time, the power button responds quickly as expected.
Now, I am really confused - PSU or APU?!

UPDATE 2 - I tried playing a few games for 2-3 hours today and it didn't shut down in between. But, the power button still takes about 10 seconds to work after plugging the cord in. I am concerned if this is one of those slow death scenario and would love to find out if such an issue is fro the APU or PSU.

Sound like hardware problem, the PS4 shut itself down to protect the unit, does it overheat, and pulse red?

No signs of overheating. There are no warnings displayed. I don't have the BLOD (yet). And, I don't see a red pulse either. After some searching, I think it's either the PSU or APU. Both being expensive components and no technicians around, I will have to do it myself. So, I am trying to narrow it down and diagnose the actual issue.

When was it last clean, when you said you try to clean the dust off the fan and power supply, did you fully clean the entire system? Is the thermal pad around the CPU in place? Might want to check that the CPU is properly clamped.

Wow, I didn't know of this. I am sorry for not having mentioned that mine is a PS4 Slim. Anyways, I watched the video and since my power button's unresponsive most of the time and sometime works only after replugging the power cord, there's a huge possibility that this is a PSU issue. I am gonna try the washer fix but I don't think that's gonna help, because the last time it turned on, I quick initialised it and was able to play HZD off Disc for about an hour without any problems. But, after the game, I switched it off. Then, it won't turn on, had to wait for some time, replugged and then it came back on.

I just cleaned the inside of the power supply and the fans. I am planning to clean the entire system now, but I don't have thermal paste. Is it necessary to change the thermal paste once it's opened?

If you are going to fully open it up may as well give it a thermal paste replacement, the one Sony use are pretty cheap one, probably it is dry up by now, but doesn't sound like you are having an overheating issue, since you didn't get any pulsing red for status light, so it most likely is the power supply for it to shut off on it own. So try replacing the power supply.

I came over this too - https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/322607/PS4+turns+off+randomly,+must+remove+plug+to+turn+back+on. Here TronicsFix says it's not a power supply issue, but the video says otherwise.

I am gonna try that then, if it still doesn't work, I am gonna try to have the Power supply repaired instead of replacing it cause they are pretty expensive here and on top of that, it's gonna take a lot of time (Corona). BTW, what paste does Sony use? It's obviously not the better Arctic Silver and stuff, but I haven't been able to find the stock paste's information. Any idea?

No idea on the thermal paste they used, general with these gaming company they would use cheap one to cut down production cost, similar for the switch, Nintendo used a pink one but it is cheap compare to Artic Silver.
