I would like a way to record my wii for some homebrew tutorials and rom hacks. Do you know any good and cheap ways to do this? (not the wii2hdmi)

Could be cheap if you can find a deal on eBay or somewhere similar. I use Elgato game capture HD. This older version came with a adapter to capture component input. So connect the Wii via component and the Elgato video out is HDMI to your tv and obviously it also simultaneously goes out to a USB port for capture on a PC. I use it for capturing Nintendo switch gameplay as well.

the8bitguy often uses a cheap usb composite capture device for his videos, looks pretty good and i cant think anything cheaper, unless you want to record your tv with your phone, but its not 2010 anymore

If it is a good phone camera, and proper room ilimunation it can get way better than composite video capture. I mean, if cheap is the way, problably you already have a phone.

Only other tip. If you intend to go live, Some hdtvs can record video on the usb input. Maybe your have that feature.
