New Paper Mario: The Origami King trailer gives a closer look at the game

With just a little over a month to go before the release of a brand new Paper Mario game, Nintendo has decided to give fans a more detailed look at what the game has to offer. This five-minute trailer shows some of the new locations Mario will be exploring, the companions he'll be travelling with, the battle system, and more. Kamek, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. will also be a part of some of the characters you'll meet throughout your journey. Paper Mario: The Origami King will be launching soon, on July 17th.

The game has some interesting things but what I am most disappointed with were the bosses like colored pencils and tape. Really? I'm not sure I even want to waste my bandwidth on that.

I seriously doubt there are only three bosses in the game, they just didn't want to spoil much so those are some of the early ones.

Did they just make a 98 cent colouring pencil pack a boss!? In all seriousness it seems like nintendo got the graphics from colors splash, just try and tell me that mario in this game doesn't look like mario in colour splash

There is nothing wrong with buying a game at launch. Most people who've been anticipating a big release for a while want that game the minute it comes out.
Except if you buy it at launch, it's going to be much more expensive than it would be otherwise, and it's probably going to have a bunch of bugs (even if they don't end up releasing a pile of DLC later). And these days there is always something else you can play.

Generally they buy it when they have the money, but aren't sure they'll have the money whenever it comes out. They'll also pre-order so it'll pre-download and they can play the instant it's released. Or maybe there's some sort of digital bonus which is neat. Other reason is to show support for series or genres they like, to add to the numbers sold (which they won't get from used games). Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's all four.
It seems strange to me that some people can't, say, put sixty dollars in an envelope and then not touch it for a month. That strikes me as problematic.

As for showing support, would you really want to show support for a developer that releases a product with game-breaking bugs? And are there really any developers who manage to avoid that anymore?

anyone know any recent indie game (or third part y game) that emulates (aka copy) the first paper mario games? because thats what i want: a paper mario game that is actually a rpg, not some gimmick. i know that mario & luigi have this, but i want game more epic than thousand year door. but no, lets put some weird battle system... ¬¬

ps: i have nothing against who likes the new paper Mario games ;)

Also worth a lot more for trade-in if you finish it in a week and there isn't much replay value. Of course, that's not an option for digital pre-orders, which is why those carry a much bigger risk.

it's probably going to have a bunch of bugs
Almost never an issue with first-party Nintendo games.

Honestly, I forgot since I wasn't interested in PMSS, but did Sticker Star have any permanent attacks or was it all an one use thing?
Nope, and neither did Color Splash. Run out of stickers/cards while fighting a boss, and, well, let's hope you're ready for your audience with Queen Jaydes.

The new trailer unfortunately shows battles are item based rather than skill, badge and ability based. And heart pieces it seems are hidden throughout the game to increase hp. So battles may been made meaningless since they may not be used to level up.

Why does Nintendo keep doing this crap with everything? Either it be consoles themselves or the games. They always screw-up by making them either gimmicky or overly simplified or removing and replacing features we love with crap! F this crap! i want my money back from my digital pre order!

I have it prepurchased as well. I don't know what to think of the battle system. I want to love this game like how I felt before I got odyssey. I was worried about that game too. I mean Mario in New York!? however, the metro kingdom turned out to be my favorite kingdom of the game, and I loved the game. I'm going to give this game the benefit of the doubt. you know it will be fun, but I hope that they didn't screw up the battle system in some way.

Wow! I'm actually looking forward to this, music so far kinda reminds me of Mario Galaxy 2 and Color Splash combined.

Is still basically the same combat system.

Yes there are a few changes but anyone who played the GBA Superstar Saga can play any of the other games with no problems since the battle system is quite similar.

Dream Team was disappointing but the giant fights and the Boss Arena was fun.

Honesty this gimmick doesn't even make sense since there is nothing in the Switch that makes turning easier compared to other Nintendo consoles.

Worse, Nintendo killed the M&L by making remakes. Did they forget anyone with a 3DS could play DS games? The first remake only sold well because the 3DS can't play GBA games cardridges.

Sticker Star has the worst battle system in any Paper Mario game.

Well eh... no: Through all M&L's life all what Nintendo did was gifting the characters to Alphadream and they made the games with no teaming up basically.
Damn, ever for PiT the team had to make a custom DS because the console was still in development.

I think the one that actually had Nintendo colaboration was Paper Jam and... eh. Well, it tecnichalyy had it just because Miyamoto was in, and... eh, that went, 'ok'

Alphadream wasn't forced to remake anything on a certain plataform or anything, they just kinda kept doing things for the 3DS to get the necessary money (which would have been pretty much lots considering their doubts) and move on, I mean look at that New3DS exclusive Fire Emblem or the Captain Toad ports, they sold well, so why "wouldn't they do too"

And that aged well.

The remake of Bowser's Inside Story came out when it was quite clear the 3DS was a dying console and when Nintendo had a strategy of releasing games to keep the 3DS alive a year or so more.

Unfortunately the game did so bad it killed the company and canceled Nintendo plans to keep the 3DS on Life Support. Then Gamefreak decided it was time for the 3DS Pokemon games to die to promote the Switch games more and the rest is history.

same shit different bucket

plus timed battles thrown in too. FUCK OFF NINTENDO!
The timed part applies only during the ring movement part. It is possible to buy more time using coins. Once the time is over, you'll be given the opportunity to chose what move to use. That part isn't timed, and you can idle on that section without worry.

Wasn't there a severe game crash in Pokemon X/Y when it was first released? And Skyward Sword had something bad enough that they had to release a special app on the Wii shop to fix it.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
