Nintendo 3DS source code leaked

3ds.png

Two in a row today!

The item of interest, barely four hours after the last major drop, consists of partial source code for the Nintendo 3DS family updated as of October 2014:

  • Source code for the 3DS bootroms and kernels, including modules (drivers) for 3DS mode.
  • Precompiled DSi and GBA bootroms (the latter being the NDS variant).
  • Source code for most developer titles, including many not directly released to licensed developers.

The above list is the result of a cursory analysis: it may contain inaccuracies. However, notably, it does not contain any regular system application or applet, meaning the inevitable question about what this means for the 300 icon limit can already be answered.

Are you expecting them to publicly admit to using the leaked code in any way? Of course they're going to cover their own backs while Nintendo is constantly keeping a close eye on them.
Exactly. Publicly, they would never do that. Behind close doors though I'm sure a lot of emu devs have peaked at the code. I'm sure they wouldnt want to copy it line by line into the emulator but it still offers a crazy amount of information.

Were Nintendo products made by a 5 year old? Neverending leaky/quality/security issues...

Yep. The actual act of writing lines usually only makes up a portion of the time spent coding. There are projects I've done where a single issue has taken 6+ hours to work out, yet the fix only took a minute of "actual work"

To give an actual example. I was working on an interface for a t-shirt printing company so customers could upload their own designs, and I had issues saving the designs to a server. Turns out I kept hitting file size limits and simply had to allow the server to process bigger file sizes, something which was literally a single line change in a config file to fix.

Had I been able to see the source code for a similar project I'd have identified and fixed this problem much faster. And there would be no way for anyone to know I copied the same general solution

Just do the Wii U one already, this is the least loved console for homebrew and yet the most capable in my mind for emulation purposes... leak the Wii U Source code, so that can help understand and develop a cold boot solution and better and more stable hacks. I'm sick of the Wii U not getting as much love as the Wii or Switch when it comes to homebrew.

Just one thing: we already have the 3ds bootroms, but if the MOTHERF-ING DSI BOOTROM is legit this is going to improve emulation a lot... We don't even need to use the source code inside the emulator itself, just being able to get all the missing keys from this dump would be great!

not the gameboy but Zelda DX had some discoveries some years ago

As for game and watch depending upon what version they are that might be difficult -- the G&W stuff might not even be emulation in the strictest sense of the term as much as simulation as there is no real central CPU, instructions, memory or anything we typically recognise as a computer and instead almost pure logic.
To that end G&W source code would be the form of a transistor decap or arrangement diagram, or any design docs that might exist of people prototyping things.

Lol.. sorry Fast6191 i was being sarcastic... but i get the logic in the older tech of the G&W but thankyou for the link in to the Zelda source im reading it now

Is this mean will we finally get better support about SNES GAMES on old 3ds?
I would be surprised if anyone could push Snes Emulation further than Bubble2k16.

As was I, however I do enjoy giving pointless answers (even if actually correct) to such things.
