New trailer for 51 Worldwide Games showcases game modes

Players can get cosy with friends and family to enjoy a diverse collection of timeless favourites in 51 Worldwide Games, which launches for Nintendo Switch on 5th June and is available for digital pre-load now. From ancient board games to modern classics, relaxing solitaire games to fast-paced toy sports, the collection includes games that have shaped cultures all around the world.

The newest 51 Worldwide Games - Overview Trailer not only shows the wide variety of game types to be enjoyed in local and online multiplayer, but also the different modes players can use. The Nintendo Switch console can be placed flat on the table between players to turn it into a virtual game board for some head-to-head action, and the perspective also adjusts to provide the optimal view.

Players can also connect up to four systems via local communication to enjoy social favourites such as Texas Hold ’em in local multiplayer or head online to play with friends or be matched with rivals around the world.

With Mosaic Mode, up to four consoles can be connected via local communication and lined up to form one big playing area. They can even be arranged in different ways to change the layout.

All games come with short, narrated introductions to get players started with the basics, while step-by-step tutorials provide in-depth strategies and tips for more challenging games. There are also interesting facts about each game to check out, for example the fact that the boxing “ring” got its name, because originally it was formed by people standing in a circle and holding hands.

Depending on the game, players can also experiment with different control options like, button and touch controls – or motion controls for games like Bowling or Darts.

"There’s a world of games waiting to be discovered when 51 Worldwide Games launches for Nintendo Switch on 5th June. Check out the new trailer for a look at the diverse range of game types, modes and playstyles on offer in this collection of classic tabletop games from around the globe. 51 Worldwide Games is available for digital pre-load from Nintendo eShop now."

This is actually pretty cool because there aren't too many multiplayer games where you can both use just the touchscreen. Price is too steep at $40 though, seems more like a $20 type of deal at most.

I wonder if anybody has ever complained the Switch didn't have enough shovelware. We've been getting a crap ton over the last year and a bit.

Well, PS4 and XB1 have had a lot more time to build up their libraries of shovelware, so Switch devs have to double-time it to catch up.

Seriously though, my definition of shovelware is games nobody should ever play. In contrast, there have been board/card game compilations for basically every console ever released for a reason: the formulas have stood the test of time. Sometimes people just want something simple and familiar.

Is there a reason, why this intro posting sounds exactly like a PR prep sheet?

I mean, if you know nothing about videogames, and have no clue about how games marketing works. And know nothing about a game?

Why not become a news editor for gbatemp?

At least rephrase it the next time around.

And I know, that the job isnt glamorous and doesnt pay well - but if it comes down to the point where you find yourself flogging sh*t like -

Players can get cosy with friends and family to enjoy a diverse collection of timeless favourites in 51 Worldwide Games, which launches for Nintendo Switch on 5th June and is available for digital pre-load now.
- to mostly minors.

One has to ask, have you got no morals?

Are you a bot?

Do you enjoy copying the PR pointers sheet under you name to make it look like your work?

You know - the usual questions.

Does this count as shovelware? It's first party and seems to have some genuine care and attention put into it. Presentation looks fantastic.

I am not sure why people are so down on this. The DS originals were pretty good as these things go. Sure I preferred the likes of the telegames Ultimate ? games series and feeders for it, and if any of the games got a dedicated version (quite rare for some of them, even more so if you don't speak some Japanese) you usually got a few more options, backgrounds and house rules.
Unlocking games left a bit of a sour taste (especially as a few were far more random rather than skill, and maths wise you probably had a learn a few games to get far) and some of the ring toss/bowling/carnival stuff was a bit weak even by minigame standards but the rest was quite nice. The AI was good and I played most of them enough that I would have hoped I started to recognise prebaked boards for those things you could plausibly do that for.

If this is even vaguely in line with that, and most of the entries on other systems were, then yeah.

For clarification. I'm not down on the product. I'm down on people on this forum literally shoving PR statements into the broader public as 'their own voice'.

Thats sell out of the worst kind.

Even illegal in my country.

If a product manager of a certain product buys those sorts of endorsements. F+ck that product manager, and the product only by association.

Because what the hell are you doing here. This is not a 'gentlemens faux pas' selling your audience to advertisers by the dozen. Without indicating to them, that this is advertising, of the worst kind. Because you have a captive audience. That someone is willing to pay for.

The next time this happens I'll post Jim Sterling videos. Just so people see what kind of mindset people are dealing with here. (Sponsored 'native' content. Without disclosing.)

F+ck their product manager for going with this advertising strategy, not the studio.

Also what you are displaying is 'personality driven' decision structures. Why make this personal? (Bitch? (language!))

This is why companies buy opinion leaders as advertorials. Because people love to like someone percieved as popular who has access to stuff, or information, they have not. The entirety of influencer marketing model is based on that single concept.

So be exact in your language on who you are defending here, by mounting an attack at another posters character.

- The company that did something deeply shady in buying this posting

- The community manager that didnt disclose native advertising, and didnt disclose the author of that message

- The guys that made the game.

Because to be frank, I dont even know who clubhouse games are. But I know - when group leaders are made to sell out their audiences.

And this is such a case.

So this one is not directed at clubhouse games as much as it is directed at gbatemp. Stop selling out your audiences in that way. No money in the world is worth what you are doing here. Even if it pays your staff - at the same time you loose all reputation as an outlet. If I want native advertisment on the core product this website targets - I watch an advertising clip. I dont read gbatemps news section.

And if you want to, next we could get into, why the practice of preordering harms customer rights, and the media ecosystem. And ask ourselves why the heck gbatemp would be advertising this as a media outlet.

Why are you acting as if it matters whether or not a "shady company" (Who is Nintendo, as if they want to fuck with this site.) "bought" a post to advertise their product.(I guess you missed the windows key ads, which clearly this post isn't about)

This article is about Nintendo releasing information about Clubhouse Games for the Nintendo Switch, and nothing else. Reporting on this doesn't require an ap exam dbq response. If you think that it is some attempt to buy advert space, then your wrong. If this game doesn't appeal to you, then don't buy it. If you don't like this report, offer better criticism about the writer's report (Instead of calling this robotic/ a "bought out" post.), or ignore the report. Stop trying to frame this as a "Shady company buying advertising space".

If Nintendo is the publisher here, they probably didn't buy this posting.

Which makes what the "Chief Editor" of this site did even more problematic.

Because he now is just reposting PR sheets as his own content, without even a second of thought about what he does - not disclosing this as PR material and not gbatemps native content.

So little regard for the users of this site is frankly just utterly astonishing.

Also 90% of the people in here didn't identify what was posted as PR material at all. Everyone just went with it and acted as if it was a news posting. Half of them were hyped by it.

So if your job is to repost PR material someone else wrote under your name - at least acknowledge the effect that its having. (Apart from this still being illegal. At least in my country.)

It goes beyond my comprehension why anyone would do this wihtout being payed for it (because it is selling out of the worst kind, discarding every little ounce of journalistic ethos (What, now it was just more convenient to copy paste a PR article as 'news?'. Without changing any of it? Without writing any of it? Making your readers think, that this was your editorial voice?)).

If you expected anything of substance from a report about a ds game port on GBATemp(which isn't really a news site to begin with), then I don't know what to tell you. It doesn't require a doctorate to report this, nor did the author boast about this report's quality. It just sounds like you have something against the author when you call their report a PR statement and calling them a robot.

I am baffled that you are apparently so upset by this.

Is slicing up a press release the team lazy approach? Absolutely.

Would it have been preferable to have source GBAtemp press inbox at the bottom? Better, and certainly good form but I don't know if I can quite get to essential or abhorrent breach of standards to omit.

If I am to speculate on the thought process. "Oh cool another clubhouse games/42 all time classics entry, quite a few enjoyed the previous ones, they even give a nice blurb about what it is to come, let's share it".
Lazy, and taking 5 extra to write quite a few liked the previous goes around with maybe a few links to those threads, maybe slice out the flowery nonsense, "in the older titles what were your favourites?", "what would you like to see in such an entry?"... would have been preferable. As some kind of serious departure from/breach of journalistic ethics? Can't get there.

90% of people did not notice? I don't know that I would say that. Most probably did (it reads like a presser and unlike most of what we see written in our own tongue), however the discussion of things is what this is about. Said presser is also largely facts about, or if we are being super anal then claims of features in, the upcoming game, the closest we get to claims of quality is either the word cosy or the claim that the tutorials, tips and play options will be in-depth. If people took it as a review/first impressions/hands on then that would be their problem.

As some kind of insidious native advertising/advertorial? In some kind of technical sense then possibly, certainly I don't imagine the devs are complaining here, something in a manner that anybody is likely to take issue with... you appear to be the only one, and I am still not sure I am onboard with why.

About the only thing it is really likely to bother is the SEO if it appears elsewhere but published earlier and the stuff gets deranked a bit accordingly. As tragic as that might be I think people will live.

@notimp I don't usually reply to nonsense but because I forgot the GBAtemp Inbox source link, I will bite.

Would you rather I recreate this Press Release in my own tongue and just hope everyone gets the message? What if I drop vital information because of my personal bias? Versus reading the direct message from the developers and publisher who have prepared this info and want to share it with the entire world?
What can be clearer than the information recieved from the creators?
If you google the first paragraph, or any of it, you'll find it on tons of sites because it's a press release.
Some sites put their own spin on these, and that's great but when a company has given me a page full of info, I'm not gonna mess with that because what do I know about upcoming game x that I've never seen or played?

We are not obliged to post or edit a PR but we do so the public get the message the creators of the game want them to get. This isn't paid for and we get 100s of them everyday.

I've been posting on the front page of this site for nearly 18 years and never heard this complaint. You've been around for 12 of them so should know how things work by now!

It’s definitely not sponsored content, nor do we even get anything at all from it, not even a review code. Many outlets take this approach, of just pasting the businesswire post as news, without extra content. It’s nothing new, nor is it illegal as they aren’t paid content. It’s just news. I personally always prefer to add a paragraph or two to go with these things, but that also means the actual PR gets buried in a quote box. When it comes to this card game collection, I totally get why someone would paste the PR—everyone already seems to dislike this game, and so few people actually have enough reading comprehension to understand what’s being said.

It’s flowery, sure, but nothing gets lost in translation. Facts about the game, details of the release, information, bing bang boom. All there to see.

I love how they use the same American voiceover from the American version of the overview trailer, yet she had to change certain parts of her script for the UK. :P (Draughts, Toy Football, "51 Worldwide Classics")
