SEGA's Sonic SXSW announcement has been delayed for a second time

6v9QMUq.png

Last month, we were supposed to see what SEGA had planned for the Sonic series, but after SXSW was delayed, so too was the announcement. Then, this month, we were supposed to see what that SXSW announcement would have been, but, again, the reveal has been delayed. The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account said that to ensure the team's safety during the unprecedented events unfolding throughout the world, they're currently unable to announce the news that was planned for April.

I can't believe Sonic's been cancelled. Might have to add "Sonic" back to my username for solidarity :rofl2:

Can we just delay the rest of 2020 to 2021?

oh the reason this message is so far below is because it's delayed due to covid 19 sorry
theyre probably just delaying it because they're firing all the nutjobs working at sonic team and hiring real fans who actually passed their game design class in college

Sonic is over rated anyhow, I'd much rather see Fallout I get a re-release, or how about that System Shock remake and sequel? That would be worthy! Sonic though... just a fantastic demo for the hardware at the time, but after the Dreamcast, it's really not been that much to write home about. Mario is the real deal when it comes to platformers anyhow. On that note, I'd rather see Sega revive Alex Kidd.

overrated my ass lmao, sonic's been a trainwreck for the past 14 years
everyone who knows sonic only knows him for being that one guy who released 2 of the most unfinished and buggy video games of all time
im not even mad at sega, just frusturated.
they have a fanbase that's more passionate about sonic than sonic team ever was, and they didnt even consider to keep the fans at sega/ make them the new sonic team?? Yeah sonic mania exists but that's 1 gem in a sea of shallow gameplay, failed experiments and buggy games, and sega didnt bother hiring them to stay at sega. it's like having 4 pets that keep wrecking the house, injuring you, and when you take them for a walk, have them harm other people and poop on the road. then a stray cat comes inside and doesn't smash the house or anything, even helps you and keeps you company a bit, but you decide to kick the stray cat out and keep the 4 shitty pets.

None of those games except for Alex Kidd is a SEGA I.P. Wrong thread to complain, buddy.
Sonic as a platformer is great, specially the 2D games. There's just something magical about the level design and how it ties all together than no other franchise has, alongside tight controls and dynamic but simple gameplay.

The 3D games have been hit or miss but even so there are some good ones like Sonic Heroes or Unleashed and great ones like Colors and Generations. Even the bad ones like Forces just have an unique enough gameplay that no other franchise has.

Sonic Team needs a refresh, or a new project. Takashi Iizuka himself is too fixed on his Colors masterpiece that he keeps rehashing it on final bosses, or by putting Wisps everywhere, even though it doesn't make any sense at all.
