PS4 owners, rejoice! Just today, Square Enix has released a demo for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake! This demo allows gamers to play through the opening chapter of the game, as well as the events of the iconic Mako Reactor 1 bombing mission.

Moreover, those who download the demo before May 11, 2020 will also receive an exclusive PlayStation 4 theme when the full game launches next month!

In FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, players will be drawn into a world where the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation, controls the planet’s very life force. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to an anti-Shinra organisation calling themselves Avalanche. The first game in the project is set in the city of Midgar, and is a fully standalone gaming experience designed for RPG players that crave unforgettable characters, a powerful story and the ability to choose their style of play with a battle system that merges thrilling real-time action with strategic, command-based combat.

Head to the PlayStation Store right now to try out the demo. Final Fantasy VII Remake releases on April 10, 2020.

GTA V is now 3rd best selling video game of all time. Surely this is due to a lot of reasons

Not because it's a great game. Because it's massively pushed by the media as MUST PLAY!!! Just like how a Justin Bieber album can top the charts, yet any number of other bands are far, FAR superior but do not get even a fraction of the sales.

-spoiler-

Thanks tons for the epic spoiler.

if you've missed it 23 years ago, you've missed it forever. Remakes just don't work that way.

Obviously youve never played GTAO. It's simply addictive and lets you record and share, period. youtube took care of everything else... I dare you... in fact... I DOUBLE DARE YOU to watch any GTO thuglife video without laughing XD and compared to what the original game had to offer, that spoiler isnt epic at all. Playing the remake is the real spoiler ^^

Don't mean to rain on the hype train but.

You played it once you played it before, a remake is just a game you're paying for again but slightly prettier.

Aside from the fact that @naughty_cat is getting a little over the top about the whole thing here; Dude that game is 23 years old and it's kinda your miss if you never played the original until now

It's still a spoiler. Just because YOU played it 23 years ago doesn't mean everyone else did. I', 48 yrs old and have game backlogs dating to the Atari 2600. Can't play em all.

1) See my above reply
2) Obvious? LOL! There's nothing in my post that makes it "obvious" I've never played it. I was talking about sales not making something automatically great & you ASSUMED I have never played it. I also happen to not like GTA games whatsoever. But opinions. Who would have thunk of such a thing? Oh. I watched a video. I might have found it amusing when I was 15.

Though largely absent from the demo, I object to the the alterations made to FF7's story. I especially didn't like how the narrative responsibility for the Reactor 1 bombing was taken out of Avalanche's hands at the end of the demo and became just another example of Shinra's villainy. Taking responsibility and coming to terms with the bad things that Avalanche did for the sake of saving the planet is a part of Tifa and Barret's character arcs. From the audience perspective, being told that "They're innocent, it was Shinra that really did it" is a bit of a cop-out.

And your Nintendo Switch is just a prettier gameboy.

I agree, that the narrative change diminishes the seriousness of Avalanche as a group of rebellious vigilantes, or potential terrorist group. They are definitely "not innocent", though. I think the shift just shows Avalanche to be more pathetic/helpless and doesn't change the morality behind Avalanche. It makes the weight of their actions less heavy on the player, which is probably due to the PC times we are in. But man, I love the swearing.

That's exactly what i'm talking about. Remakes aren't necessarily alternatives. Especially with FFVII! Playing the ff7 remake can only spoil the original for you, nothing more. After Sakaguchi Sama was unjustly let go, they almost went bankrupt when they first started making ff14... This stupid excuse for remaking a masterpiece is gonna cost them a lot more than whatever earnings they hope to achieve out of it, provided theyde stand up to their original promise, and actually include every dungeon from the original... FFVII was truly larger than life ^^ in every way... Only those who played and fell in love with the original know what im talking about. Attempting to remake FF7 is just like attempting to remake Super Mario Bros., or occarina of time... Some games are just better when left alone, especially after youve lost the people who came up with the whole thing in the first place. The first final fantasy was what saved square from bankruptcy back in 1987, and now FF7 is gonna finish them off... you just wait and see ^^

The weight of their actions is exactly the problem. Nobody is innocent in the truest sense of the word. As you say however, giving the Reactor 1 bombing to Shinra in particular has big implications for the player and how they will view the characters involved. When Biggs, Wedge and Jessie are dying on the Sector 7 tower, they acknowledge their fate as karmic for all the people that died. Those words should have the weight that they deserve, and having Shinra carry that weight for them diminishes them as a characters.

Maybe they don't die in the remake. Anyway, I'm going to wait and find out before I make claims that SE is diminishing them as characters when, in the demo alone, I got 3x as many lines from Jessie than I did in the original.

I did not play it once before.
I played it like ten times already. It's easily one of my three all time favorite games and I always had a bad feeling about the remake when I saw how they announced to completely revamp the battle system to make it more modern etc etc but what I saw in the demo is something I can work with. I'll definitely get it next month, no questions asked

I didn't even consider that as a possibility. If they do that, why don't we just resurrect Aeris at the same time? In fact just remove all the stakes from the game so everyone gets a happy ending! Even Hojo can just retire to Costa Del Sol and spend the rest of his life getting massages from his harem of beach bunnies. Why not.

Yeah, not even close in this case (or most cases actually.) You're thinking of a remaster. A remake is generally a completely different rebuilt from the ground up with either different gameplay or completely rebuilt gameplay designed to be similar. In this case, it has the same story, but a completely and totally different gameplay. Saying this is "the same game" is like calling John Carpenter's "The thing" the same movie as "The thing from another world." Those films are only the same in general plot, but are wholly different in tone, framing, appearance, execution, acting, effects, pacing, atmosphere, and literally everything else. It is not "the same" just because it's "a remake"

Oh no snuggles what did you do did you exchange it for the xbox one - don't worry we forgive you we all go a bit crazy at somepoint lol
No. I sold my Xbox One after buying a PS4. But then I sold the PS4 for Switch money and sued Playstation for an unauthorized charge. A customer service manager lost his job and I wish I hadn't sold my Xbox One.

Glad I got out of there before the Playstation California policies started taking effect. I dodged a bullet there.
