'Final Fantasy VII Remake' demo available now on PlayStation Store

PS4 owners, rejoice! Just today, Square Enix has released a demo for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake! This demo allows gamers to play through the opening chapter of the game, as well as the events of the iconic Mako Reactor 1 bombing mission.

Moreover, those who download the demo before May 11, 2020 will also receive an exclusive PlayStation 4 theme when the full game launches next month!

In FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, players will be drawn into a world where the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation, controls the planet’s very life force. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to an anti-Shinra organisation calling themselves Avalanche. The first game in the project is set in the city of Midgar, and is a fully standalone gaming experience designed for RPG players that crave unforgettable characters, a powerful story and the ability to choose their style of play with a battle system that merges thrilling real-time action with strategic, command-based combat.

Head to the PlayStation Store right now to try out the demo. Final Fantasy VII Remake releases on April 10, 2020.

I played the demo and it ends after the first reactor boss and asked you to pre order the game. However others are saying it is 4 times longer than that! i am wondering if different regions got different demos?
No. First reactor is all that is in the demo.
But it doesn't end after the first boss. The escape is in there as well.
I guess what people mean is that this initial sequence is four times longer than in the original.

Downloaded it last night and was very enjoyable. Would of preferred if it was still turned based but the classic mode option it offers although set to easy difficulty is the best I'm going to get.
Still pretty keen for the release

This will be GOTY

I dunno I think cyberpunk will give it a good run for its money for GOTY and this is coming from someone who is a huge Final Fantasy fan (but not to the point where i can't see the flaws in the series) and knows 7 like the back of his hand.

They still are final fantasy at their core, its just that times have changed and things have moved on. If you just push the same game over and over and over again, the market stagnates, people get bored play other stuff. If modern FF's don't do it for you, there are other games out there that fill that exact void that FF has left by moving on. I will admit that FF7R's 'classic' mode isn't exactly what I expected it to be, but imagine would have been nigh on impossible to blend FF7 and FF7R together to please everyone.

I don't believe in remakes and reboots, from all that we have seen on the build up and the demo, yeah im pretty pleased at how its been handled. Did it need to be remade ? No, but its good that another generation who perhaps wouldn't have touched earlier FF (because graphics are everything right ? /s) games have a chance to experience the story of 7.

Except it won't. Final Fantasy may look like one of the best selling franchises but in reality it is not. They've sold about 150 million games world wide, seems like an impressive number until you realize there's 30 games with Final Fantasy in their titles. Fans of older Final Fantasy games do NOT buy newer Final Fantasy games because they're trash when compared to a real Final Fantasy game. Ff7 remake is going to be garbage game just like 12 was, just like 15 was. When people think of Final Fantasy they think of jrpg with turn based battles, they don't think of an action adventure hack n slash dumpster fire with rpg elements. The problem with games today is their target audience is no skill talentless children that wouldn't know a quality game from a hole in the ground. The target audience needs to be older people, people that were gaming during the golden age of games, because without them, NONE of these gaming companies would be where they are today.

Who said FF players want turn based lol made up crap - look at tomb raider for example was mor puzzle based back in the day but then went to mor action which made the games mor exciting - action is mor entertaining than turn based so thts why Square Enix moved towards tht

I tried it with and despite not having to grind i can def see it purely being built around the grind to justify why they cut it in 2 parts. The only way to justify it being cut in 2 parts is the playtime in total. When playing the demo i felt when looking past all and how it will present itself in further chapters well maybe i'm wrong but to me it entirely felt being built around an extremely long grind that you have to do to articifially make the playtime longer. It's just a guess and an opinion and in no way being stated as how it is going to end up but i hope i'm wrong about them artificially making each part longer by introducing an extremely long grind to make playtime artificially longer so they have a reason for them releasing it in 2 parts so they can answer complaints with '' playtime for 1 half is now the same as the full game we released back then so hence why it is in 2 parts ''. Just hope that i'm wrong but that's how i experienced and felt about the demo when playing through it. Ofcourse it will be 4 times longer if they use the same way oflevel design that they tested out in FF12 mostly for the first time seeing how the public would react to it. FF12 introduced much longer dungeons with a maze like pathway that made you constant take wrong turns with an increased enemy encounter compared to older titles with less exp gain. Dungeons in FF12 took so extremely long that it become a chore instead of a playthrough that made you wanted to skip every battle but you couldn't because the lack of exp points given, you had to grind through every battle non stop every single 10 seconds to clear the end boss of that dungeon. I already saw signs of that in the demo and i feel like they're going to use dungeon level design how it was in 12 to make that first part of the game much longer than it should be justifying them to sell it in parts. I felt in general more positive than negative when it came to the remake in general but now i am not so sure. Just saddens me all youtubers are blinded by their sheer fanboyism fueled by nostalgic feelings mostly instead of being objective praising the shit out of the demo and not seeing the things wrong with it.

@kumikochan Thanks for the input... I actually find what you said to be rather insightful than speculative. They actually did something similar when they released the FF:13-3 lightning returns demo... Im really not against remaking FFVII... I completely agree with what Uiaad said

I just wish Mr. Sakaguchi was still involved. He would know how to do it RIGHT. There IS a reason why GTA games are still selling like hot cub cakes. Of all the great game franchises that started out back in the golden age, GTA V is now 3rd best selling video game of all time. Surely this is due to a lot of reasons, and in my opinion, one of those reasons is the fact that "The Original Mastermind" is still involved (Dan Houser). Its not like I'm saying there's supposed to be a rule or anything like that, all I'm saying is... I'm looking at the FFVII Remake footage, and it just feels like a bastard child...

I'm glad some people did notice that aspect of the demo 2. Just feel all youtubers are missing all of that and looking at the demo from a nostalgic fanboy manner. In that same way it is funny how they all despise gaming journalists not being objectively whatsoever but gaming youtubers these last 2 years have been looking at games in the same manner they normally despise of journalists. Not neutral but entirely from an emotional nostalgic view. I saw that with every single reaction video all youtubers posted. There wasn't a single one that mentioned what i said and all praised the maximum shit out of it they could ultimately do. The reaction of all them when looked and viewed at just shows how biased they all are and they became what they all hated to begin with. Biased gaming journalists who often fail to see the bad points a game has when it touches nostalgic feelings while all jumping on a band wagon hating on a game because it is popular being so. Well my 2 cents atleast after seeing the reactions of most know youtubers like dreamcastguy, happyconsolegamer, modern vintage gamer with a fucking video title already blasting it to 10/10 status and even spawn wave wich i expected to be less positive and see the faults but even he praised the hell out of it not noticing whatsoever those grinding aspects being built as a core for the game itself.

-spoiler-
Def, they all gonna merge because of their fanboyism till just a tiny dropling of them is left behind because the shit they spout constantly cannot be merged and gets left behind, the little turd of all their biased comments smelling miles far ahead. Lets pray the turd they leave behind may combust to fire by the sun sepiroth has ignited in heat by using his ultima fire skill setting the planet itself ablaze by scorching heat waves that hopefully may combust all the turds left behind by those youtubers so that they may be forgotten without ever having to me remembered
