Nintendo Switch firmware 9.1.0 released

switch.jpg

And, after the 3DS got its recent system update, this time it looks like it's the Switch's turn. Firmware 9.1.0 has been released by Nintendo for all regions and the changelog states it's meant to fix an issue with the colour animation not showing correctly when attaching a Joy-Con to the console... alongside with the usual stability. However, there may also be something else under the hood, as @SciresM has warned that TrustZone might have received an undocumented change, so current CFWs may break if you install the update.

Ver. 9.1.0 (Released December 4, 2019)

General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including a solution for the following:

  • Resolved an issue where the color animation was not displaying correctly when attaching a Joy-Con controller to the Nintendo Switch console.

Needless to say, given those premises, it may be best to avoid updating for the moment if you're running a CFW or if you wish to mod your console. Not much else is known at the time of writing - this post will be updated with any useful hacking and homebrew-related info.

EDIT: For devs (and the curious), a summary of the TrustZone changes by SciresM found in FW 9.1.0 is now available here.

EDIT 2: SX OS, Atmosphère and Hekate have all been updated to support firmware 9.1.0 since then.

Means a system nand is 9.1. emuand is still 9.0.1

Can work fine.
I can confirm that this works for me as well.
Can you guys:
  1. boot into stock sysNAND 9.1.0 from hekate (not SX OS bootmenu)?
  2. boot into SX OS emuNAND 9.0.1?
  3. boot into Atmosphère emuNAND 9.0.1?
If all that works, I don't see a reason not to update my sysNAND to continue playing online while my emuNAND stays at 9.0.1 for a very long time enjoying everything I'm already enjoying now.

Yes, you can boot into emuNAND while your sysNAND is 9.1.0, but I made the mistake of pressing A too quickly, missed that update prompt while the cursor was on the update selection, and while I was in CFW emuNAND it basically borked my CFW. My ignorance for sure.

You updated your emuNAND? How can it even ask for an update? You should keep it offline lol.

That's a good question that I have no answer for, and I kept it online because I'm always using FTPD.
Online is fine as long as you use 90DNS and/or incognito (and/or Stealth Mode in SX OS although I won't trust that one too much).

Farking Nintendo... finally found a pristine moddable switch and got home about 10pm. Wiped it and ran an update to bring it to what I thought was 9.0.1.... nope 9.1.0.

The SX OS Screen works but CFW does not. Can't even boot into sysnand from the SX OS screen.

Will wait until it's patched... ugh.

Then chances are high you're banned anyway so you won't need an emuNAND any longer.

Quite the opposite. I'm not banned, and I know for a fact I won't be. I'm way too careful to let that happen, plus I can use my Switch on OFW and still use everything Nintendo, so no problems so far. The sure-fire way I've seen people get banned is by having games on their Switch that conflict with the eShop. In other words, you install a game as an nsp or other file, but don't own that game in the eShop.
