Nintendo 3DS firmware update 11.13.0-45 released

The 3DS has received a new update and, shockingly enough, the changelog doesn't mention stability for once! Firmware 11.13.0-45 has been released in all regions for both New and Old consoles and it is aimed towards fixing a bug with the system's StreetPass functionality. Sure enough, initial reports show that the only updated sysmodules are StreetPass, friends and Web browser data, alongside your usual NVer/CVer changes. The official release notes can be read below:

Ver. 11.13.0-45U (December 2nd, 2019)
  • Resolved an issue where StreetPass would not work in some cases.

Not much else is known at the time and consoles that have already been hacked via boot9strap should be able to update just fine but, as usual, you may want to refrain from installing the new firmware version until someone else gives the all clear - especially if you own a stock console that you wish to mod. This post will be kept up-to-date with any other useful hacking & homebrew related info.

I can't wait until we find out that this update makes a CFW 3DS brick itself upon getting a StreetPass tag lol
Userland execution is enough to brick a 3ds, so this is not a joke. It couldn't happen "automatically" as you suggest, but a malicious actor could craft a streethax payload that overwrites nand files.

Streetpass may not be super popular anymore these days, but I'd heartily recommend to anybody: keep your 3ds updated if you go hunting for tags. Especially at any nerd-cons where streetpass is known to still be kinda popular.

I kinda miss homepass, but I admit I'm actually glad it's kill with this exploit about to be in the wild.

Here's the 36c3 "streethax"* talk announcement just to help the danger sink in a bit:

Gosh. Really? As in blue-screened? Even on the latest firmware? How would that work?
Frozen black screen on boot most likely but it could vary. The unreleased streetpass hack should be fixed on latest firmware. The flaw for nand bricking still works but it needs a separate homebrew entrypoint, and all the "execute without your knowledge" entrypoints should be patched up on latest firm.
I'd rather not go into details on how it works for obvious reasons, but it's unfortunately very simple.

According to wiidatabase.de to Update the 3DS is ok.:)

https://wiidatabase.de/3ds-update-v11-13-0-45-behebt-probleme-mit-streetpass/

Also a Statement about the Streetpass Hack is mentioned:

In terms of homebrew, nothing has changed. You can update calmly. Incidentally, at the Chaos Computer Congress in late December, NbaYoh will be giving a talk on how to hack 3DS consoles over StreetPass - so it would be better to patch it in, if it's related to it.

Thank you.:)

For once, we finally get an update that's unrelated to stability.

I do have one question...

How is it that they have time to fix a StreetPass bug, but not fix the double line bug in TWL_FIRM or AGB_FIRM? :P

Just got it!

Edit:

3ds update "confirmed" stable by me. Streetpass is also safe. However your mileage may vary and I'm not responsible for any damage done to your system.

also @sks316 your in the video lol, thanks for giving me the idea! ;)

My video, nor my channel is monetized. I do not make money for any of the content I post as of 2019

Damn. I just thought if you put the Switch cartridge in the battery slot it would work with this firmware.
They'll probably add actual Switch support in firmware update v11.632.0-45
