Didn't boot with a SD card either.

At this point, I'm considering something must've died from a ESD shock or something - not even a reflow brought it back (yes, I went THAT far to save it).

I'll just return it and buy one from a good friend I have who didn't use it for a long time. Here's hope it's a RVL-001 as well, since these (when working) are some of the most robust versions.

Thanks for the help, from all of you!

Yare yare, that's unfortunate. But, here's hoping it all works out for you! Good luck in your Wiiscapades. :grog:

Thanks!

Talked with my friend, tomorrow he's bringing the Wii in. Fully boxed, sat unused for a lot of years. Got a microSD to SD adapter and a 16GB Hama card, so I'm pretty much set.

Any recommandations for mods? I have a HDD enclosure PCB (trash find, fully working) and a few HDDs to use (one for PS3, one for Wii and such) so I guess I have my bases covered on game storage. I do vaguely remember that BootMii on boot2 is a real lifesaver, but not really much other than that.

I'd heavily recommend setting up RiiConnect24. It re-enables stuff like the Wii mail, forecast channel, everybody votes channel, Nintendo channel, and re-adds stuff like the DLC in Animal Crossing, along with Animal Crossing's special mail system, and a plethora of other stuff. It was one of the first things I did with my Wii, and now I'm basically just looking for more friends to add on it :D

Aside from that, I use WiiFlow for loading games off of a USB drive, but most people tend to prefer USBLoaderGX, although it's a tad bit more complicated.

Take a look into Wiimmfi, as well. It's not so much a mod as much as it is a patch for games, that lets you play online with people again, and I'm also looking for more people to play with there..

That's about everything I go to my modded Wii for, but there's still a whole world of stuff out there like Nintendon't (Booting Gamecube games off of your SD card, using the Wii's native backwards-compatibility, but adding quality-of-life stuff like saving to the SD card, letting you use Wiimotes with classic controllers as well as GC controllers, among other things.), Retroarch for emulation stuff, WiiModLite allows you to install wads of WiiWare games directly to your home menu (Be careful with that though, it's easy to mess something up if you're not familiar), and plenty, plenty more.

Yes,absolute.:)

Works great and for what i know also with WiiFlow.:yaywii:

Aside from that, I use WiiFlow for loading games off of a USB drive, but most people tend to prefer USBLoaderGX, although it's a tad bit more complicated.

All 3 (4) Loaders has its Benefits.

- Configurable USBLoader MOD - very easy, makes 96 Percent of the Work automatically.Great UI.
- WiiFlow - also easy to handle and works also great on Game Loading.I have to confess to my shame I do not have much experience with it yet because I "discovered" the Loader quite recently....
- USBLoader GX - works great and also makes most of the Work automatically.Needs a little Experience in my Opinion. But if you do your Homeworks,it is a really great Loader with many Features and Settings.

- Neogamma - old but good, used mainly for DVD Backup loading.

Thank you.:)

Okay, so I got the new Wii.

It's a RVL-101 model though, with no GC ports (I don't have GC games anyways) and a newer drive that doesn't allow DVD-Rs. Runs 4.3E currently.

I'm having troubles with HDD homebrew tho:

-Wiiflow just endlessly sits on the main loading screen (the one that makes your drive light flash)
-USBLoader GX will see and load the drive, but trying to load any game results in the Wii returning to the main HBC screen.

Unfortunately it froze while checking IOS36 vulnerabilities, so I don't have the report of it.

And yes, my HDD (Samsung SP2004C 200GB) is FAT32 formatted, and games are installed. All of that was done through Wii Backup Manager Build 78.

Hello.:)

Your IOS36 is unpatched, that explains why you have "Troubles" on Homebrew.

Please use the Simple IOS Patcher 1.14 for that Work.

  1. <Select which IOS to patch: <IOS 36>
  2. <Install patched IOS36>
  3. Install IOS to Slot: 36
  4. Patch hash check (trucha): yes
  5. Patch ES_Identify: yes
  6. Patch nand permision: yes
  7. Patch version check: yes
  8. Patch ES_set_AHBPROT: yes

Thank you.:)

Patched IOS36, USBLoader GX still throws me back to HBC, and WiiFlow still gets stuck on the main boot logo with the flashing DVD drive.

The sysCheck Application works now ? That would really helps us to see what is not ok.
It is pretty sure an cIOS issue.:(

Thank you.:)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And please would you be so kind to tell us which USB Device you use now ?
I read above you have some HDD´s and a Enclosure(PCB).
Did you format it with FAT32 ?

Did you have One Partition or more ? And is your HDD surely recognized as MBR Drive ?

Did you used the correct USB Port 0 ?

Thank you for your Assistance and Help. :)

I'm still trying to get the sysCheck app to give me a file. It does the check but when I look for the csv file on my PC, it just isn't there. I'll just take a few clear photos of the report at this point, not even using FTPii doesn't show the csv file.

Enclosure PCB is this:
Seagate Expansion Desktop 1D7AP3-500 Controller Board 3TB/4TB USB 3.0

The HDD is a Samsung SP2004C, 200GB, SATAII 7.2k RPM, 8MB cache. Formatted FAT32 through Wii Backup Manager's built-in format option

My drive is recognized as a MBR drive since the PC I use doesn't have EFI/UEFI (Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R w/ Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz LGA775) so GPT is out of the question.

Finally, yes. I did use USB Port 0 (in fact, I can't change that unless I'm running Hermes' cIOS)

The sysCheck.csv is always in the Root of the Wii´s SD Card.:)

Your Enclosure(PCS) and your HDD seems ok,nothing to complain about.:)

With the Hermes cIOS I am not sure I understand you correct.

Hermes cIOSes uses the Slots 202,222,223 and 224 for several Games.
The USBLoaders (GX) needs mainly Slots 247 - 250 and d2x cIOSes with Bases 56 and/or 57 for a large Part of the Games to work on USB 0.

Thank you.:)

USBLoader GX just told me USB switching is only supported on Hermes patched CIOS.

As for the syscheck.csv, I looked for it in the root of the SD as well, it ain't there either.

Ok,that is absolute right.:)

By the Way which Version of the USBLoader GX did you use please ?

That is very strange.Your SD Card is surely not Write-Protected ? Did you use an normal SD/SDHC Card ?
It seems maybe the syscheck Tool has "No time" to write it.

Did you also have enabled in Windows:

- Show File Extensions
- Show System Files
- Show Hidden Files

Thank you.:)

The latest one, r1272.

I am using a Kingston microSD to SD adapter along with a 16GB Hama card, and I can write to it and read from it just fine, and so does the Wii.

It seems a few apps that would normally crash through HBC work if run through WiiXplorer. It loads them through IOS 202. Said apps are MyMenuify GUI and Gecko, which both blackscreened through HBC.

EDIT: Have finally got Priiloader (for MotionPlus, since it's a 2k8 Wii) to run, so 1 layer of protection done! BootMii is just IOS since I couldn't install it as boot2.

Updates:

1. Got most of the stuff to work on the 101.

-Priiloader works, and with Wiimote support too (there's a version that works with Motionplus remotes). Had to install it through WiiMod as it didn't work through HBC (complained about IOS36 not being patched even though IT WAS)

-USB Loader GX and CFG Loader work fine too. WiiFlow now starts, but trying a game will send me back to System Menu (like USBL GX did before) so gotta work on it too. d2x cIOS was the culprit as it wasn't installed at all.

-I downgraded to a DarkWii Blue themed 4.2E from the previous 4.3E

-I managed to replace the stock cables with a Gamestop 3-in-1 Component cable (has plugs for Wii, PS2 and PS3, and Xbox 360)

-Figured out why I couldn't get the SD Card to work as it should - I had the switch set in the LOCK position! :rofl2: Didn't notice that until I googled the switch itself, LOL.

2. I still have the RVL-001 Wii, complete with its plugs and box.

-seller didn't care about it anymore, said he fixed the PS3 (I could care less in the end as I still have 5 working phats, among which one is a 4 USB model I took GREAT care of) so I don't really know what to do with it. I found an seller from Bucharest who has a lot of 16 broken Wiis, and among them I spotted 2x RVL-001s. Should I bite the bullet and buy one? He said most of them have mechanical issues (which sounds to me dud DVD-ROMs ahoy!) and I do know the dead one I have has a fully working drive, and the price he asks per Wii is relatively cheap ($10/Wii + ~$5 shipping). Is there an advantage of a 001 over the 101? As in, is it more flexible to modding over the 101?

Hello.:)

Thank you, that is noted on my asking list for the next Wii Support "Customers".:)

I am very glad to hear the Wii is now working for you.:yaywii:

Thank you.:)

Yes,that is the "Fun" on buying used Video Game Devices.
You never know what you get, until you hold the Device(s) in your hands.:)

After your last Experience you surely know how to buy in the future.
The safest Way - check the Items "on site".
If you get something sent,it is a 50:50 Percent Chance,no more,no less.
I wish you good luck on your Wii Deal.:)

RVL-101 is only designed for horizontal Operation (official recommendation from Nintendo)
No Gamecube Support/Connectors/Gamecube Equipment.

Well, Nintendont does run, hehe :) so in theory I do have GC support, but only if I use a USB PS3 controller (tried Crazy Taxi GC and directional controls went haywire with the nunchuck, possibly due to the missing 2nd analog stick)

Mine is on a stand (leftover from the 001), haven't really noticed anything strange (but then again I don't use DVD games since I have a HDD)

And in the end noted, will also fix the 001. I'll ask the seller which of the 2 RVL-001 Wiis have mechanical issues (he said there are some that have electrical problems, but it may be a small number) and then buy one of them, get hold of another SD2microSD adapter + card (and check the switch on it, LOL!) and then transplant the working DVD drive from the dead 001 into it.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller.
