I agree with most of what you said. As far as "laggy" and "unstable" I have never experienced that with SX OS and I've been using it since it came out on 3 switches. I see way more threads on the front page everyday from atmos users than I ever see for SX users.
I said buggy, not laggy. Any errors or freezes in homebrew crashes the entire system, something that is fairly common, this doesn't happen on Atmo due to much better error handling.
When I used SX OS it was not laggy. But the latest updates from SX OS blowed my mine.
Why does everyone think I said "laggy"? I never said that
Not necessarily, you can use an adapter in handheld mode.
Switch doesn't provide enough power to power a HDD with an OTG adapter I think. Anyway, who's gonna do that? It's really inconvenient, unless you like velcro the HDD to the back of your Switch, and even then, you can't charge the Switch at the same time and it's gonna drain your battery even faster.

Is this your only statement to use sx os? For my opinion is kosmos my favorite. CFW and custom bootloader. Convinient AiO-Package.

each to their own, but those features my kids are not interested in, they just want to play games and for me SX is ideal as I can paste XCI games to the internal SD card or a external HDD connected to the dock or connect a SSD drive with XCI games directly to the switch. no installing or uninstalling NSP files. this to me is the best feature of SX.

maybe there are 2 groups of people who use CFW, those who just want to easily load and play games and are not interested in anything else and those like you who want custom loaders etc..

buggy ? what makes you think that ? , I don't think I've hardly ever had to power off the switch becuase of a bug, the only time I do that now is when i update the firmware.

well I've connect a 500gb SSD drive to the switch with a OTG cable, that's how i copy XCI games very quickly now to the internal SD card

or you can just load the game and just unplug the drive from the switch once loaded.

When I say buggy I mean every new update from SX comes with some new bug, they don't test their releases well enough. For example, just in the last update they released fixes for Stealth Mode which was broken in 2.9+ and wasn't blocking updates, which is a rather big deal, and Internet LAN play was broken as well.

hey y’all I’m just now getting a switch.... late I know but.... I’m wanting to mod it so that I can use HBG and use a external hard drive as A storage for games along with a SD card and also sysnand and emmunand for a “clean” system and a modded Version... what CfW should I use?

I am sure you already checked to make sure your Switch isn't a patched one and can be moded correct?

I'm sure SX OS has more features but I never use them

I'm not really into homebrew or emulation anymore so I can't comment on any of that

They are all great but when I'm setting up a new switch for homebrew for a friend or family member I always go with SX OS. Noob friendly and problem free. Not one of them has called me for any help. Set it and forget it

Now that it recovers from freezes just like atmosphere is good for noobs, before latest beta a system crash would mean jig+payload.

You should have done like I did, buy an RCMLoader and the SXOS license. The RCMLoader carries Atmosphere, SXOS, Reinx, and any additional 3 payload bins. As you might know, it also houses its own jig.

Doing the way you did (buying the SXOS Pro and RCMLoader), you now have an additional dongle and jig you probably won't use
when instead
you can have a dongle that will allow you to use and switch between whichever 5 CFWs you'd like on just the RCMLoader

My recommendation, cancel the SXOS Pro order, order a SXOS License, keep the RCMLoader, save a couple of bucks

The SX pro has already been shipped...and the reason I bought it is because ya never know with some of the RCM loafers out there if there gunna be any good cause the one I bought is through wish..(which is ok) but usually the crap on there is cheap... so atleast with the SX Pro I’ll know it’ll work out of the box

And do I have to do anything before ? Or do I just load the files onto my SD card and then I can use the jig? Or do I have to go through the steps on the “ Nintendo switch modding for noobs” guide ?... I’m new to it so I’m not sure

Yup, it's very simple, which is why I will ashtrays prefer sxos, as opposed to atmosphere. Since you have the pro is even easier. just drag/ drop the file from the zip to your SD card and your ready to go. Make sure your card is exfat formatted since you'll probably (should) be using XCI backups instead of nap backups

Make a nand back up first, then transfer it off your SD card to your pc

Then make a emunand. I prefer files to instead of hidden partition, but it's up to you to decide which one you'll be comfortable doing

Click the emunand enabled and auto rcm buttons, then your set and ready to go!

Meh, maybe not with an HDD, but it'll work fine with a tiny flash drive, I guess.

Yes it can - I used this exact model Western Digital 4TB 2.5" external HDD with a USB OTG adapter when I went on a 2 week cruise back in March this year.

No, you do not need to have the HDD velcroed to your switch, you just need to think a little bit about when you don't have access to a computer or the internet.

I would use the HDD at night when in my cabin so I can load the XCI and then trial from a wide variety of games.. when I found a game I was interested in I'd install the XCI from the HDD to my internal SD card, then charge the switch overnight and then play the game from the SD card the next day (by the pool, usually).

Another advantage of HDD storage is you can give someone the HDD, they load it up with ''homebrew'' for you, then you just plug it in and play.. sometimes that is just easier and faster for both sides involved, rather than copy and install to SD card.

the USB C OTG adapter I used - https://www.amazon.com/Basesailor-T..._1_15?keywords=usb+otg&qid=1571106304&sr=8-15

Atmosphere has had bugs as well, then done stealth updates to patch those bugs.

ALL SOFTWARE HAS BUGS.

There is no one best solution, if the OP wants XCI and USB HDD or USB memory stick support - then there is only one solution.

Otherwise if they want to try out CFW for free - then use Atmosphere.

You can install from HDD with other CFW, just not load directly from it, and honestly, SX is not worth it anymore now that Atmosphere has emuNAND, it's way too unstable and buggy.
Loading from HDD means you're always tethered to the dock. Some people might not mind that, but still, a big SD card is not that expensive and gives you far more flexibility (playing on the bus etc....)
A big SD card is significantly more expensive. A 2TB hard drive (The highest SX supports iirc) can cost as low as $50. Meanwhile a 512GB SD (Literally 1/4th of the storage) is $100. A 2TB SD is close to $440. If you dont care about playing on the go (The last time I went portable was three months ago) SXOS is both cheaper and easier (Drag & Drop vs install) for mass game storage.
