Finally have everything running. Now I read I can install games as XCI (apparently safer) and NSP format. For NSP I know I can use tinfoil.
1) I only plan to play offline on emu mmc. Is there really a risk with NSP, as in more dangerous than XCI even if offline?
2) What app do I use for installing in XCI? thanks
3) Which format is more recommended, because of advantages over the other.

I've seen this asked elsewhere, but the answers I've seen don't make sense, so I figure the noob area would be appropriate. :)

Before I hacked my switch, I was a good boy and did a full backup. This was in Jan of 2018. The latest firmware was 4.x at that date, however I know I've updated the switch since then. The burnt fuses count shows 6, which I think means I had updated to 5.x.

Since there's now an emuMMC option where we can toggle between CFW and OFW, what I'd like to do is restore my backup so I'm back to a pristine OFW state and then set up emuMMC, however I understand that if I restore my backup, it's going to put a 4.x version of the OFW that isn't going to like the 5.x fuse burn count.

The trick I can't figure out is how to get the appropriate 5.x firmware version installed after restoring. The solutions I've read all bring up using ChoiDujourNX for this, however, I thought the switch had to be hacked to use that -- exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Is it possible to do this? Perhaps editing the backup to "inject" the 5.x firmware?

Noob question time: I have emuNAND on 8.1.0. If I upgrade my onboard NAND to 9.0.0, what flow-on effects does this have? I believe it affects loading anything via the cart slot on the emuNAND, but anything else?

If you update your SysNAND to 9.0.0, you can't use the cartridge slot on EmuNAND anymore. But that's also the only issue I see.

It is a fast moving console my friend since we are already up to 9.0.0 firmware. I recommend Atmosphere as it get the most feature and quickest update for CFW support, Signature patches allows you to run unsigned games and homebrew, the directory in sig patch pack tell you where to put them.

https://switch.homebrew.guide/gettingstarted/beforestarting

If you really wants a guide you can read this.

You're telling me it's fast moving... I'll be able to update atmosphere and such, I use the ReiNX payload in Tegra so, do I still just update all the atmosphere folders or, something else as well?

What's 90DNS and incognito? There are ways of going online now without being banned? There's so much I've missed ahaha!

And, I did I see that there's a version of tinfoil that installs games straight to the console without having to manually download, put on the SD then install? I'm gonna need to have a good read. I want to do all this tonight ahaha

Also :
thats the thing, eversince the update i cant boot it in original firmware its just not turning on

If you turned on Auto RCM then you have to use a payload pusher (tegra) to boot the console up. If you try turning it on without injecting a payload the switch will hang on black screen. You can turn it on from sleep mode, but if its fully off you'll need to use a payload injection to boot it up.

ok, i managed to get emunand to work! and just on time for Links awakening! huzzah!

I do have a question about how it works: i followed a guide telling me to partition my sd in two, (A) at least 30gb for the emunand and (B) the rest, in my case, around 80gb.
Now.
By how the guy talks in the video, i assumed that A was where the emunand was going to go and B was where my "jailbreak stuff" was going to go to. So basically, both partition would be utilized somehow. However, following his tutorial step by step, now i have B with emunand, games and homebew, and A is completely empty.
Why's that? Did i do it wrong? Is A supposed to be for Vanilla Switch to use as its extra storage? Will it format the WHOLE sd (so A+B) when it'll ask me to format it for Switch use, or just A?

At this point I have no interest of having extra storage for Vanilla Switch, I could just delete A and have 128gb at my howebrew disposal lol
But i'm so peeved I don't understand the point of the tutorial I followed!! ahaha

Thank you, I hope I was clear enough!

No, you need two partitions, one for emuMMC and one for regular homebrew stuff. It would be helpful if you could link the video.

ReiNX payload and ReiNX CFW doesn't support 9.0.0 officially. Maybe in their nightlies from their Discord channel. But I'm not in that so I can't give you the answer. Officially (their website) ReiNX supports up to 8.1.0 https://reinx.guide/.

90DNS is a proxy that attempts to block all communication with Nintendo servers. Incognito is a homebrew app by blawar that wipes your unique console info from cal0 (prodinfo). The theory behind that is, if Nintendo can't get your unique console info, they can't ban you.

Neither are for going online with CFW and playing on Nintendo servers. They are both for blocking Nintendo servers. This is for blocking updates, and an attempt to not get your console banned by Nintendo. It does NOT allow playing on Nintendo servers or using Nintendo services while using CFW. It's meant to allow CFW users to use the internet for other reasons (homebrew app store, ftp, etc).

That's tinfoil.io. It'll also require you to use a modified version of atmosphere, along with Mercury. The original tinfoil did allow for network installation without having to first copy to the SD card though. Just saying.

Nobody can fully answer "Did I do something wrong?". We weren't there and nobody knows which guide you used. It seems the de-facto guide right now is https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/partitioning_sd/

lol right you are. The video is in in italian, that's why i didnt think of spamming the link, but it's this one

I just find it odd that all the things seems to be installed in the B partition, the bigger one, while A is empty (then again, I havent checked it after installing games, maybe that's where they're located?)
Thank you for the link to the written guide, I'll check it as soon as i can!!

I mean, in all honesty, yes, you did something wrong. I only say wrong because you are correct: the emunand/emummc should be in the 30GB partition, which is why that was made that particular size. You probably just selected the wrong partition in Nyx.

Weird is that the youtuber put all homebrew stuff on the EmuMMC partition. I guess the first partition should be used for EmuMMC and therefore you should put your hombrew stuff on the second partition.

aah, damn! lol. At least I used the bigger partition and I have space for all of my stuff! :D
Did i ruin my switch for future "ligitimate" online use? I literally did this procedure yesterday evening and installed games via Goldleaf on the SD, not the internal memory. If i did, well, it's on me and I'll be ok ;) The only thing I'm remotely interested is animal crossing next year, I've never been a big online gamer.

I followed his steps exactly the same, the only thing i did different was giving a bigger space to the second partition (he did 29k b, i did 32k b cus i had issues in the past and i read that giving it more space solved them. Which, it did.). It's also why i assumed the emunand was installed by the homebrew in the first bigger partition, cus that's where it detected the files needed for it? maybe? The only selectable partition was the one I chose, iirc.

thank you again guys!

Hi,
I already have CFW 6.2 atmosphere but i started one year ago, and i notice there is a lot new stuff, like emunand.
I already bought new 512gb micro sd card and i want to setup fresh cfw, that means i want to go back to stock firmware, i have gpp raw nand and boot0/1 and next make emunand with cfw.
How safety go back to stock?
What i supposed to download to have the best features on console for now?

What I should have said it is a fast moving scene, if you go away for a few months , a lot would change so that is normal. 90DNS is a DNS to block Nintendo server, Incognito is to edit your prod.info to block communication with Nintendo server. Think you talking about HBG Shop, it is a modified version of Tinfoil, where you can install game directly on to the system, since it is hosted off Google Drive, sometime stuffs won't download if there are so many people trying to download the same thing.

ah, sorry for insisting but:
"Did i ruin my switch for future "legitimate" online use? I literally did this procedure yesterday evening and installed games via Goldleaf on the SD, not the internal memory." I think the term I was thinking of was "dirting" the system.
can anyone answer this?

I'm taking full advantage of this noob paradise thread

Thanks so much for the detailed answer. You've helped a lot there! Are there and games that require formate 9.0.0 yet?
