The reason why I and many long time members here try to steer everyone to go with the R4i Gold 3DS Plus is because we want those hacking their 3DS systems for the first time with ntrboot to not only have an as easy & painless experience popping their custom firmware cherry (lol), it's to make sure they're happy to continue using a trouble-free DS flashcart that doesn't have a stupid time bomb to worry about, decent enough GUI to look at, and (more or less) perfect compatibility with every DS game out there.

Too often we see noobies focus only on the $$$ aspect and not the long term ownership.

Yup, RTS Lite (grey) / Gold Pro (yellow) / Dual-Core (silver) are literally the same cart. You buy whichever color you like the most.


Most DS flashcarts are shitty because they stop working when you reach their built-in expiration dates (by 3DS system calendar).

The YS Menu kernel doesn't have a pleasant GUI. Some people don't care looking at it because you spend most of your time playing DS games. Others are reminded every time they launch the flashcart that they bought a shitty flashcart. All the more reason to quickly select you game and not scroll through the menu too long.

Some of the more shittier flashcarts will automatically commit suicide brick themselves if you don't use the correct version of YS Menu kernel. Do the R4iSDHC series do something as dumb as that? I wouldn't know.

You don't have to install YS Menu right away. The time bomb for R4iSDHC series carts sold this year doesn't kick in until September 3, 2019.
