Hello all,

Recently I updated my EUR New 3DS XL to 11.9.0 (as I wanted to play online together with my girlfriend).
Big mistake, as it turns out now, as I used to play the JAP Airport Hero series very often, and now I cannot do that anymore as the RegionFree launcher has been removed from the newer version of Homebrew Launcher (which I needed to reinstall after the update).

I know that CFW allows me to play regionfree games, but that would require me (on this FW version 11.9.0) to either solder or buy an additional DS flashcard; both I am not very excited on doing just to bring back the RF launcher.

I wonder if it is not simply possible to replace the files on my microSD card with files from an older Homebrew starters kit? Would that bring back the RF launcher? If so, where would I be able to find an archive of older starter kits? Any other solutions maybe? I have been searching like crazy but have not been able to find anything.

Thanks so much for your help

I'm pretty sure I have it stored somewhere, I'll post it up in a bit.

Also there is another free method you can do for CFW called Seedminer, which works on the latest firmware.
You can find it here if you're interested: 3ds.hacks.guide

Edit:
Turns out I don't have it stored locally.
From digging through the wayback machine I've learned regionThree only supports up to 9.5 and regionFour only supports up to 9.8.
You'll probably need to get CFW if you want to do any region-free shenanigans on 11.9.

Thanks so much for your effort!

Well, in principle I don't mind installing CFW, as long as it doesn't involve me soldering or purchasing another piratesque game card (I already have a Sky3DS, which will become useless after installing CFW, if I understand correctly).

I just think I misread the compatibility table on the guide website; thanks for pointing me in the right direction :)

Installing B9S and Luma3DS is highly recommended. The Seedminer method is free and works on the latest version.

Ok, so I would like to follow the "seedminer + steelhax + frogtool" method.

I don't know anything yet about B9S or Luma3DS, but I will soon enough. Thanks for mentioning these terms.

Allright, all good, followed the guide, works fantastic!

The only thing left to do is to transfer the .sav files to use them with the .cia's. I have found a topic that mentions using Nintendo's saver transfer tool, but that tool doesn't work with my Sky3DS+. I've also read about a method that uses renaming files and two tools, but it seems tedious (and outdates, judging by the post dates).

What's the standard way to use .sav files with .cia games nowadays?

@Eflix This isn't quite what you're asking for, but Sky3DS just behaves like the real cart you have on it currently, right? I think you could use a normal save manager (Checkpoint is the popular one at the moment) and export your saves one by one from the Sky3DS, then import them again to the installed versions of your games.

This wouldn't directly interact with the .sav files, it would just be like exporting all your saves from your genuine, commercially purchased games in order to import them to your CIAs.

That is indeed the main way to extract decrypted saves from (more or less legit) physical games; you counld probably use fuse-3ds too, but you'd be trading one annoyance for another (manually renaming the folders to your save manager's standard)

Yeah, I think the 3DS doesn't 'see' the difference between a genuine cart and the Sky3DS. I see that checkpoint was actually already on my 3DS main menu after installing CFW using the guide website, sorry about that. Going to read on that application now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if I can work with Checkpoint and try fuse-3ds if I can't for whatever reason :)
