So now I've noticed that selecting a rom with only one core to choose from crashes retroarch. Sucks for those of us who just keep one core per console on our SD cards as we have to clutter our cards and waste space on unused cores. Sucks for everyone for consoles like Wonderswan that just have one core available period. Those consoles outright cannot be played. 1.7.7 outright sucks. I don't know how you guys thought something this broken should be released. If you don't care about the WiiU just stop developing for it instead of tricking us into updating from a working build to trash.

Hey guys. I've two questions which might be worth asking instead of having to force shutdown my Wii U every now and then.

1) Which core should I use for Neo Geo emulation? Is it MAME? Which one? I know FBA or FB Neo don't work already, although CPS1 games ran just fine. Every time I try it the Wii U crashes.

2) Is there any way to run ISOs on the PC Engine core? I've tried to get Rondo of Blood running more than once to no avail.

I don't know about the PC engine stuff but the FBA neo geo core should work.

They both work.
For neo geo part, you probably need to put neogeo.zip bios on the same roms folder, and use FBA core.
NEC PC Engine CD work. There is a core names Beetle PCE CD that can run ISO files.

1) Neo Geo is def FBA, make sure you have a fba neogeo romset

2) PC Engine CD and Turbo Grafix CD will only work in .bin/.cue format with the mednafen pce fast core

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

anyone get atari 5200 (atari 800 core) to work? it says need real atari / os?

The roms need to be unzipped and in .a52 format.
A config file needs to go into sd card/retroarch/config/Atari800/
Create the folder Atari800 if it is not there (case sensitive)
Here is the config file - https://mega.nz/#!mERBQA6S!3cz86vMAUgtU1yJRY3XWFy4J3Y9sjW-9mR6jHDF33SM

Kinda depressing that there are no upcoming fixes or improvements for the Wii U port

https://retroarch.com/?page=changelog

Seems that it's been abandoned after all, can't say I'm surprised.

RIP Wii U port
I'm not surprised. All the complaints in here about what's broken with zero replies? They don't care. I'm gonna try 1.7.8 and see if it fixes any of my issues and if not I'm gonna get 1.7.5 back on my SD card.

I mean, for what it is, it's a good frontend and many emulators run quite fast on Wii U, but for whatever reason, it's unstable. Maybe it's the Wii U itself, maybe there are RAM leaks, I don't know. I'm not ungrateful for the work that has been put into RA after all these years, don't get me wrong. It's just a damn shame that it's seemed to have died an ignominious death, and it's why I'm very cynical of the Switch homebrew scene. All the devs jumped ship and went over to there instead.

I've been avoiding the Switch homebrew scene intentionally, because of what it cost what little there was left of the Wii U scene. Pure bullshit.

Edit: I don't think I'll be contributing to their Patreon from here on out
It really has nothing to do with the Switch. So few people own a WiiU, that's it. I mean, the DSi and 3DS still have fairly active scenes, more active than the WiiU. It's all about numbers. I just wish they would outright say they don't care about the WiiU version rather than tricking people into "upgrading" to a less stable release because they don't care about the WiiU.
