Im not saying have it be permanent to the thread, have it loaded in via JS or whatever, if thread.startDate - currentTime < 1000 * 60 * 60 * 6, then show a tiny new indicator. (thats 6 hours btw, obviously can be changed)

You know you can already see if threads are recent if you are looking at "New Content" since they show the creation date and even see post count to tell if it's a busy or not thread, right? Just not really worth it...

You all are missing the point, Just like many, some just refresh the homepage because the convenient Recent Content tab.
Its not uncommon for me to spot a thread interesting me, finding out its a new thread for the better or the worse.

Now I'm really confused. The front page box doesn't show tags, so what you're wanting wouldn't have an effect anyway? By all means try to explain it a little better for the value but when you can already sort by post date, it's pretty clear what's new and what isn't.

Yeah but other tags don't show on the front page is what I'm getting at, so making an exception for this just seems odd to me. I think a recent threads tab on the recent content bar would be a better suggestion personally, but I suppose wait for a higher up to pitch in with their thoughts.

more tags showing would be nice. A tag for "necro-thread" would be nice, avoiding necro-bumps. or "long-lived" for the old ones still going strong. I'd imagine that's a lot to ask of a server though, so I don't expect to see it anytime soon.

This wouldnt be done on the server, it would be done via javascript on the clients end.

I think I understand what you're getting at but maybe a better way would be showing the reply count next to the time? Then you can easily see if it's a new thread with 0 replies.
That one would actually work nicely, doesn't take as much room and is much more useful than just a "new" tag.
