Microsoft has given us the official unveiling of the Xbox Project Scarlett, their next gen console. It’s set for launch Holiday 2020, and will be “4x” faster than the Xbox One. Will utilize the power of the cloud. Phil Spencer claims that it will have 120hz support and up to 8K resolution. Halo Infinite will be a launch title.

It's also a bit of a waste of time, but fair enough - we're still talking about $700 for just the GPU, you need to build the rest of the console. I sincerely doubt Navi comes anywhere close to a 100% increase in performance, and that'd still be in the high end of the spectrum, not on an APU. I don't know what you're arguing here, exactly - the specs suggested by the team are unrealistic either way. You have to look at the Ryzen line-up if you want to deduce what the likely scenario is going to be.

Not "match the 2080", match the "4x the performance of the Xbox One X". You went a bit off-track there. ;)

they have to make their console Next-Gen and last 5years. They already have the mid-range rx580 card in the scorpio so they have to go next-gen midrange otherwise people would get mad if they just repackage the same system as the 'next'Xbox. we're talking Holiday 2020, which is a Long ways away. The prices will drop significantly by then. we have to see the pricing from AMD today though first

I don't suspect 26 TFLOPS will be considered mid-range a year and a couple months from now, but what do I know? I'm just a cynic on the Internet. :P

where are you getting your flops numbers? the new midrange in PC is 9.5tf, the new Xbox and Ps5 will feature the Radeon5700. They just showed it.

Probably worth mentioning that supporting 120fps and 8k doesn't mean games will actually hit that. It's just an impressive sounding cap.

Go back to how this conversation started and you'll find out. As for the GPU on-board the new PS5 and Xbox, they'll probably be based on RDNA, but no specific chips have been confirmed yet since there is no die to look at. There are some rumoured specs of the devkits, that's it.

1) Local multiplayer dying among 'big two'
2) No wired, microwave-free controllers combined with consoles with Airplane Mode to preserve health.
3) Less physical media available that just runs the game (with no online ties and profiling info sent to State Mafia NSA partner).

This brave future of gaming is saving me a fortune.

I don't. NVidia has nothing new on the horizon and AMD only has Navi up their sleeve as far as GPU's go.
Except Nvidia has their "SUPER" GPUs "on the horizon" (which is like a refreshed 2xxx series, except Nvidia is boosting the core counts and most likely VRAM on all of them), and Navi is almost 100% going to force Nvidia to drop their prices if the supposed performance is even remotely accurate to what is claimed.

Also, RTX 2080's are only $750, not $1000 each, so it's $1500 it'd had to be, not $2000 :P

But yeah, 100% agree their "4x the power!!" claim is BS, I imagine they're simply referring to the overall performance improvement, not any one particular piece of hardware. They probably factor in things like their super special SSD in it to reduce loading times, plus the CPU and GPU and GDDR6 etc etc to make the claim "marketing accurate".

Maybe they are where you live, around here they're worth their weight in gold, apparently.

Wfi and bluetooth are both damaging. Proven.

You can laugh all you want. Cigarettes were debated for decades. And we all know why. Multibillion dollar interests to protect.

We can go wired on PC if we want. Yet consoles don't give us a choce. Madness.

Uhm... You *can* go wired. You have an Ethernet port and an array of USB ports. As for the impact of WiFi, Bluetooth or any other signal in the 2Ghz to 5Ghz spectrum, there is no credible evidence that non-ionising radiation like that has any impact on health. At all. You also can't stop it either, you're surrounded by cell towers. Your TV remote shoots out an infra red beam at your TV whenever you tweak the volume. The *sun* is blasting radiation at you all day long, cosmic radiation is surrounding you at all times. So yeah, unless you plan on covering your house with lead plates and never leave or turn on any lights, the impact of a low-power antenna found in a console is the least of your worries. You carry on believing pseudoscience though, I'm sure that's fun.

The average user cannot stop the ps3, xbox360, PS4 and Xbox One from constantly polling for controllers. There is no easy way to shut that off.

Wifi can be turned off easily. How about the bluetooth responding to controller input? Pseudoscience, you say. https://ehtrust.org/science/peer-reviewed-research-studies-on-wi-fi/

Anything that people love and is common and doesn't make them drop dead immediately is justified in unimaginable ways as 'safe'.

The idea is to reduce usage, even if we can't eliminate exposure entirely. Especially for long hours next to one's gonads...which are affected, incidentally. You can stick your head in the sand if you want. Plenty do. It's easier to live that way.

Cigarettes were argued for decades despite the evidence. Just let that sink in. Big money talks.

Feel free to not care as you enjoy holding a low-powered microwave oven (using the same frequency bands) for long hours in your hands next to your reproductive organs..or ear/head.

You got enough tinfoil there, buddy? You can have some of mine.

Yeah, peer-reviewed research is tinfoil to the ignorant. People still take up smoking. Your life. Your choices.

There is a multibillion-dollar ( trillion?) wifi industry (and phone industry) that would love for you to ignore the 'pesky' research and go on as normal. Feel free. We all make our own choices. No need to be cautious or minimise use.

Great depopulation tools.

Ah it seems I have touched a nerve with the 'i don't want to believe it' crowd. This crowd prefers to just respond rudely at the guy with the unpopular thoughts.

Anything well-entrenched and well-used and well-liked that doesn't make people drop dead immediately will be justified in the most unbelievable ways. Usually by those with nothing to say against something which goes against their personal belief systems. The research really doesn't matter: their beliefs remaining unchanged is what matters. The comfort of not having to care enough to look into things is great.

People still take up smoking, after all.

I wish there were more surprises in the responses, but nope. Same predictable stuff.

Translation:
We want to believe what we want to believe. We'll be rude to you. We want to remain ignorant.

People still take up smoking every year. And if you only knew about food...of all kinds...yes giving you cancers (of all kinds). Ah the well of ignorance is too deep. Eat your GMOs...depopulate.

We are in a unique time. First time in history from birth to death living in an unprecedented swarm of RF. We'll see the true long-term effects as the years unfold.

Grab those wireless controllers and bluetooth headsets.

Your link is listing half-truths. The WHO did order a test battery to check if frequencies in the 0-300GHz spectrum are harmful to health in any way, that much is correct. "Environmental Health" forgets to mention that the results were negative - no negative health effects were found.
Extensive research has been conducted into possible health effects of exposure to many parts of the frequency spectrum. All reviews conducted so far have indicated that exposures below the limits recommended in the ICNIRP (1998) EMF guidelines, covering the full frequency range from 0-300 GHz, do not produce any known adverse health effect.
https://www.who.int/peh-emf/research/en/

The difference between holding a controller and sticking your head in a microwave is fairly obvious - about 800W of a difference. Apples and oranges.

You also don't seem to understand how a microwave works either - the principle is that whatever you cook in it is hit with strong microwave emissions, which excites the water molecules within the meal. The increased movement of those molecules is what creates the heat, not the radiation - it's not a nuclear reactor. "The frequency" doesn't matter, although it was picked specifically because it is safe.
To dispel some misconceptions, it is important to realize that food cooked in a microwave oven does not become "radioactive". Nor does any microwave energy remain in the cavity or the food after the microwave oven is switched off. In this respect, microwaves act just like light; when the light bulb is turned off, no light remains

Domestic microwave ovens operate at a frequency of 2450 MHz with a power usually ranging from 500 to 1100 watts. Microwaves are produced by an electronic tube called a magnetron. Once the oven is switched on, the microwaves are dispersed in the oven cavity and reflected by a stirrer fan so the microwaves are propagated in all directions. They are reflected by the metal sides of the oven cavity and absorbed by the food. Uniformity of heating in the food is usually assisted by having the food on a rotating turntable in the oven. Water molecules vibrate when they absorb microwave energy, and the friction between the molecules results in heating which cooks the food.

https://www.who.int/peh-emf/publications/facts/info_microwaves/en/

If you were blasted with 800-1000W of energy in any form, you would feel it too.

So yeah, stop believing and propagating bunk science. Don't expect the world to adhere to your silly requirements.

I will give you an amazing tip though, because I am generous. The antennas on both the PS4 and the Xbox One are removable - unclip them and your problem is solved. WiFi follows the inverse square law, the increased distance with no antenna to direct the signal will dissipate it into nothing. Next, buy a USB controller with no wireless capabilities whatsoever - they're cheap. Problem solved, you're no longer "holding a microwave". You're still wrong, but I wish you well.
