It´s maybe not relevant.The TWiLight Menu unblocks your Flashcart.
But for further use on your DSi with 1.4.5E WITHOUT CFW / TWiLight Menu your Flashcart maybe stops working.

Is there some dsiware app that I can install on the home menu to launch blocked flashcarts like NTR Launcher on the 3DS? I don't know if I want to install a home menu replacement

So, does this allow full kernel access? Or are there still only things you can do if you use this to install CFW first?

Could be used to launch blocked flashcarts? Or run standard DS carts at TWL-speed, like nds-bootstrap?

Does not seem to work with my 1.4.5 JPN DSi. I have hbmenu 0.7.1 as boot.nds in my SD root dir, pit.bin in sd:/private/ds/app/484E494A, open the camera app, go to SD and then album and it just opens the album screen.

No but Hiya itself unblocks flashcarts, even without replacing the home menu

Just for you I jumped down the rabbit hole and updated my DSi from 1.4.1E to 1.4.5E. I really wanted to stay on lower firmware just because. Curiosity got the better of me:

• Freezing is gone (It did not work for me either). Exploit seems only to work on latest firmware.
• Backed up my NAND
• Installed unlaunch 1.8, not 1.9 because of
  • this
  • and this: "untested" https://problemkaputt.de/unlaunch.htm
  • I don't know much about DSi and do not want to dig further at the moment

Result:
My acekard 2i – know to work only up to 1.4.4:

• works on the DSi with ulaunch 1.8 without HiyaCFW without TWiLight Menu++ from the Home Menu like a normal DS game.
• Gets "An error has occurred… blablabla" on my DSi XL with 1.4.5 with NO modification. Totally stock software.

I can't guarantee it will work for you, but at least for the acekard everything is fine. On the problemkaputt site I linked, the author stated that unlaunch disables the whitelist checks.

You could try downloading the latest firmware corresponding to your flashcart and updating the firmware following the instructions on that same page, but I don't guarantee it will even work

AFAIK the DSi doesn't have the concept of kernel and userland, there's just the separation between ARM9 and ARM7 (the latter being the security CPU). You could try running the exploit and booting TWiLightMenu++

Managed to get it working, but where do I go from here is a mystery, information about the dsi out there is not really on par with the 3ds.
I do have an r4 that worked already but I though I could get rid of that to play my backups. Is this not the case?

Quick explaination, kernel ≠ firmware
The kernel is what gets copied to the flashcart's mSD, and it's what allows newer games to work (basically the menu you see when booting the card), while the firmware is installed in a chip inside the card and it's what allows the card to work on consoles with newer versions, and it needs to be updated separately

Probably you have to put that in another folder, as being your camera the jap version, it's working directory has another name (just put that file in any other folder in the private one)

Yes unlaunch gets installed on the internal eMMC

Yes, as unlaunch is installed in the nand

The guide has been updated and the folder mentioned there is private/ds/app/484E494A11 so try that, if it's not already present create it
