You need to access the homebrew menu and then Reicast through an installed nsp by holding R and started the game which gives you the extra ram. If you just go straight to album you'll get system crashes.

You can also use the reicast.nro forwarder (around ten pages back) and not have to do that, or make individual game folders (nro2nsp).

Ok so any game that I have installed on the main menu I hold r launch that game and the homebrew menu will start up then select reicast?? Or would you happen to have this forwarder by chance? seems that may be a little quicker, and thanks so much for the fast response. This scene is great.

You can look for it just like I can, it's in this thread somewhere but I don't know where exactly. I estimated 10 pages back.

I don't have it or use it because I make individual game forwarders.

Not that individual forwarders are recommended; just taking over a game you already own does the same thing without risking permissions fuckups or bannage or the like.

And really, not many homebrews recommend using the album anymore, so no idea where 'using the album like any other homebrew' came from.

I have around 200 from various systems including Dreamcast and all games work flawlessly, that work exactly as they do if you launch elsewhere and you get the extra ram included without having to do anything extra. There is absolutely no issues with individual game forwarders. I have tested them throughly and even beaten a few games from beginning to end.

I'm sure the creator of nro2nsp re.lax would love to hear from you why they aren't recommended. That's blatantly false.

As far as banning they do nothing that being on CFW doesn't already put you at risk of. They're no different than an actual switch game nsp. Also by holding R on an nsp you're still running the nsp, so there's no less risk of being banned. If someone doesn't want to get banned they should be on emunand on SX OS.

Incorrect. CFW on it's own is very unlikely to get you banned, it'll only get you banned if you do stupid shit.

Not everyone uses title replacement on a "nsp", many people (including myself) use their legit eshop titles.

Which would only help you if you never use a pirated nsp. That's fine if you happen to do that, but most people on CFW do have pirated nsps games. My only point was a forwarder is no more risky than a pirated nsp. And if you're on emunand no risk.

I went in getting a switch and using CFW expecting to get banned. I don't care about online games.

Even though there's a perfectly, if not equally, large and valid audience that uses CFW for means beside piracy and that piracy itself is extremely discouraged by the only firmware developers worth mentioning?
'kay, but I have no interest in further provoking that discussion.

That's alright though I'll let you keep making false statements about forwarders I'll just drop it.

Just saying that a quick glance at the RetroArch thread would show how generally disliked forwarders are, especially in the long run as updates are pushed, regardless of how aesthetically pleasing they may be (though I believe it just clutters the interface as it is). But sure, pin the libel on me.

I've followed the Retroarch switch thread long before I joined (as a lurker) and I've never seen such comments, but it is 308 pages. When you say "quick glance" I took a quick glance and see nothing in that thread as you claim, unless you're talking about many pages ago. I'm sure you won't but I'd love for you to give me at least one or two of those comments. Again I've been using them I have around 200 the games work great, equal to what they use using any other method. Even if one or two people did say something negative about it which I believe you're taking as fact with no actual experience using it they're wrong. Don't believe everything you read without knowing for sure it's correct.

I know there's no issues with permissions as you stated. If there's a risk for a ban well don't use CFW and don't use not legit nsps and expect not to get banned, even though I don't believe it guarantees a ban at all. Updates make no difference to forwarders as they would roms in general. I believe you're making stuff as you go. I've gone from FW 5.something to 8.01 and was on 6 and 7 in between and they all continued to work so updates up until the current 8.0.1 have not effected forwarders.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But since we're off topic I think you should post your stance in the nro2nsp thread where there's been nothing else negative said and have been nothing but thrilled with it, again I don't think you will but you should because I think this debate should continue just not here.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/nro2nsp-retroarch-rom-nro-forwarders.519915/

I think I'm going to go ahead and post in that thread what you're claiming and see what responses I get. You can chime in there or not.

Is there a list of working games that run decent or playable on this? If anyone can post games they have tried that are playable

Everything runs fine for me

I think I was remembering the arguments years ago over compressed vs uncompressed disc images for performance reasons.

Is it clearly stated anywhere which version(s) of chd is supported? (Is that another argument?)

Wasn't there a performance issue with chd vs gdi?
The only discernable difference for me is the Dreamcast bootup logo audio is choppy with CHD but runs fine for GDI.
Other than that, no difference in speed or compatability
