@phelen, if your dyslexia is severe, I only recommend hacking yours with ntrboot method using the R4i Gold 3DS Plus.
If you can't afford that specific model, you can settle with the R4 SDHC Dual-Core 2019 (has shitty Time Bomb).

Don't worry about asking questions you might think are stupid, we've seen everything! Feel free to ask in advance of doing a step if you want to clarify what it really means in some different words. Depending on what step it is we might even be able to give you some screenshots of what you should be seeing.
r
@TurdPooCharger I would need to ask my sister to help in reading, but it just takes longer to do things if its on my own. The R4i looks good but its pricey here in UK, but it does seem ideal.

@Quantumcat Thank you, I'm reading it now but I will wait for sis to come home just in case. As worry I may brik the device.

I think we did it!!

One bit I understand from the guide:

You will now boot Luma3DS CFW SysNAND by default.

You can now hold (Select) on boot to launch the Luma3DS configuration menu.

You can now hold (Start) on boot to launch the Luma3DS chainloader menu (note that the Luma3DS chainloader menu is only displayed if there is more than one payload detected).

You can now hold (Start) + (Select) + (X) on boot to dump the ARM11 bootrom (boot11.bin), the ARM9 bootrom (boot9.bin), and your console unique OTP (OTP.bin) to the /boot9strap/ folder on your SD card (note that this will not have any kind of prompt or message).

You can now press (L) + (Down) + (Select) while the system is booted to open the Rosalina menu integrated into Luma3DS. For a full list of Rosalina features, please see the Luma3DS v8.0 Release

Do I have to do the following above?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also in the homebrew launcher how come there is no links to download othr stuff besides from the .cia from the guide showing?

@phelen and his sister, congrats. I'm going to assume you followed a video tutorial if Luma3DS v8.0 was mentioned, which is quite outdated.

Follow the Updating B9S and Finalizing Setup for up-to-date setup.

Late Edit - @KleinesSinchen stated that the Finalizing Setup page mentions Luma3DS v8.0 in a blue boxed section.

The inclusion of that specific Luma3DS version is awfully deceiving. Apologies for jumping to conclusion.

To help you guys jump start exploring popular homebrew apps, here's a CFW starter kit for convenience.

Thank you got everything thanks to sis and a lot of patience.

The only niggle is I don't know how to play .NDS games, there's one game I really want to play and that is Miles Edgeworth 2 which was fan translated recently.

Plus does anyone know the best method to enable cheats in 3ds games as well?.

Thank you

I have a N2DSXL with firmware 11.6.0-39U. I read in the Homebrew guide based on my version, I need to use the All Version method which is either the ntrbook requiring a flashcart or a hardmod (solder). I see that firmware version 11.9 uses SeedMiner. My questions are:

1. If I upgrade from 11.6 to 11.9 does that mean I can use the SeedMiner exploit and not need a flashcart?

2. What are the cons of updating the firmware? I saw a list and it seems like “less” things work with firmware 11.9?

Thanks for any help.

I'm trying to setup a randomized version of Omega Ruby for me and a friend. Using PK3DS and HackingToolkit3DS to extract and rebuild the CIA, I've got the game to run no problem on my system, but can't seem to get it to work on my friend's N3DSXL using the latest Luma3DS 9.1 and B9S. I've tried redoing the process several times, but it turns out it runs fine on my N3DSXL, but it absolutely refuses to run on his 3ds. It just crashes with this...

Processor: ARM11 (core1)
Exception Type: prefetch abort (svcBreak)
Fault Status: Debug event
Current Process: Loader (0000000000000000000)

I've tried importing the seed with FBI, but it just gives back an error immediately. I've tried disabling ARM11 exceptions, but it just hangs forever on the 3DS screen. I've enabled patching via Luma menu, but that has no effect. Oh and one more thing, if i allow the game to download the official update it runs fine, however it undoes most or all the randomization, and installing an unmodified CIA of Omega Ruby runs fine too, even without the official patch. We both have a N3DSXL setup both exactly the same way, same firmware, same settings I think or maybe I missed something.

I'm currently trying to verify theres nothing wrong with his SD card (32GB fat32 32kb cluster) with H2testw, but while that's running i figured i'd hop on and ask you fine people for any solutions.

EDIT: Figured it out. The code.bin file's name gets changed to .code.bin when randomizing the game files for some stupid reason and it fails to inform you of that, so i changed it back and rebuilt the CIA. It only worked for me because i had installed and forgotten about the Rutile Ruby ROM hack i installed a few weeks back, and that added in the required bin file for me.

1. Yes
2. No cons, it would only matter if you had 11.3 since you can use SoundHax. 11.6 doesn't let you do anything special.

Been gone for a long while. What is the latest in modding my 3DS XL? Do I still refer to the guide? I'm a dinosaur, I'm still using MenuHax, so I really need to update. How would I go to saving everything on my SD card and not lose anything from my current EmuNand? Also, probably a hardware issue so I am likely screwed there; but, could a software issue cause my 3DS' headphone jack to detect headphones even though there are none plugged in?

Uninstall menuhax by booting to sysNAND and changing the theme. Then follow https://3ds.guide. Make sure to follow the optional move emuNAND section when offered.

Not sure about the headphone issue.

Copy and paste will not work as installed games are encrypted for the consoles they're installed on. Make a NAND backup of the source console, then do a system transfer. You'll also need to backup and install the tickets from the old console onto the new one to make the games show up but I don't remember how to do that so I summon @TurdPooCharger and @KleinesSinchen

@frankiefoureyes,

By System Transfer between systems that are (1) old-to-old, (2) old-to-new, or (3) new-to-new,
***

Library cloning without System Transfer or between (4) new-to-old,
***

In the future, be on the look out for "SDTransfer" (sharing one another's Nintendo 3DS folder) and desktop/computer fast(er) CIA installer,

HI!

Ok, so i'm very confused here,

Edit: i just manually uninstalled and re-installed every core from latest nightly and replaced retroarch folder on sd card..

I dont remember the online updater for retroarch disappearing... T_T

i use retroarch on my 3ds, and have been for a while (im on latest luma and official firmware and retroarch is 1.7.6 stable )

Well, i remember there being a core updater, or online updater in the retroarch menu.. ( i was still using the stable 1.7.6)
and this was just a couple months ago, well, some of my games are having issues, so i thought i would use the core updater..

but its no where to be found?

i searched online and there is only 2 threads on the whole internet, and they are at reddit,
Did the devs for retroarch remove the online updater??

i thought i found the solution on one of those threads,

i booted retroarch menu, (xmb) >settings>user interface>show advanced settings (ON)>then i was supposed to go back to user interface and go to 'views' and turn 'show online updater' to ON.
but that option is not there.

only after turning 'show advanced settings' to ON, i went to settings>network and there is now the option 'Updater'

but when i select it, it says "no settings found"

Do i really have to go into FBI, and find every single core i have installed ( a lot of them) and uninstall them, then download the latest nightly and re-install them all again??

this can't be right.

Thanks in advance for any advice..

T_T
