I have a problem.

I get a switch from my friend.

He has 7.0.1 and use atmosphere with auto rcm.

He cant play games with catridge and dumps. The catridge freeze or get an error.
The dumps are blackscreen but you cant back in the home menu.

I try brickmii to count the fuse. They say 9 fuses (raw value 0x000001ff)

How can i fix them?
Did your friend update from pre 4.0.0 to his current FW officially or using homebrew? It sounds like his game card slot firmware may not be updated meaning it won't work on any FW at or above 4.0.0.

All I have right now is a 32GB SD card.
Its formatted to exfat. The guide for backing up your nand says you need 32GB free space. 32GB card is never actually 32GB plus the files needed on the card to do the backup take up a little space. I end up having 29.4GB free. Is this big enough to do a backup of everything needed or will it do the RawNand Parts? Id rather not backup with the parts and have to join them. Less chance of error.

I've got a switch on 6.x firmware with SX OS installed and with Auto RCM enabled, I want to put Retroarch on my SD card, what's the best practice to safely remove the SD card, shall I just turn the Switch off?

Also is there a way to get my SD card to show up when I connect it to my Mac when I connect via USB?
You can use the homebrew application nxmtp to transfer files from your PC to your SD card without removing the SD card or powering off your console. Not sure if nxmtp works on MacOS or not however.

so i saw a sys-ftp in the cfw settings thing in atmos 0.8.8 (fw7.0.1). does that allow us to connect to pc and use ftp somehow?
Yes although we have had this for a while now :P

Can anyone tell me pls what firmware I need for latest SSBU update. 3.0.1 ?
7.X (7.0/7.0.1)

Find out serial # before buying, if you want a 100% exploitable firmware, it has to be below 4.1.0, to be 100% sure.

Thanks, what are the chances of new machines in store being exploitable and do you have a link to the serial database? I'm guessing that 2nd hand machines wouldve been updated to latest FW, does this render them unexploitable due to the fuses?

You gonna have to try looking else where than in retail store, you just gonna get a patched unit, just that lower than 4.1.0 firmware is 100% unpatched, you can always search by serial # but do your research, you can always get an unpatched switch higher than 4.1.0

I am getting update nags on my Switch (6.2.0 AMS), after my kid inserted the original cart. Not sure if he connected to WiFi too. But, when I try to reset cache with Recovery Mode it automatically turns on WiFi despite it being in Airplane Mode. The game concerned is Flying Red Hat. I am getting a little frustrated here. I install v1.3 update and it crashes. I uninstalled and reinstall the game and nothing.

(Edit)
Same problem with Kaboom Cousins and Brick: Urban Underground. All other backups work. I have already entering Recovery Mode by long pressing both Volume +, Volume -, and Power On. Then releasing Power On. Then it loads the Recovery Mode, instead of getting 'Delete' I get 'Initialize'. Reboot. And the update nag (Cloud Icon) disappears and reappears because WiFi is still on despite being on Airplane Mode.

So, then I erase User Save Data with both Nintendo Data Management and DevMenu. Uninstalled the game. And reinstalled without any update, system then asks for game update. I install the update and then it crashes on loading.

Last edited by WRO,
My GameCube controllers (2) aren't connecting in Smash. I tested Cuphead and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and they work flawlessly, but in Smash they won't even show up. Tried restarting the console and game, changing controller ports and USB ports, and reinstalling the 3.0.1 Smash update. Nothing seems to work.

Things to take in account:

1- They worked before (1.2.1 update) but now I installed the 3.0.1 update and they don't anymore.

2- The game is a cartridge, adapter and controllers are original, and as I said, work great on the menu and other games.

3- Running FW 8.0.1 and Atmosphere 0.8.9 with sweet patches. Maybe it's the Atmos version?

Thanks for any input!

Updated to 8.0.1 and got most things and games to work. BUT new games seem to require that I go online to verify them before they start up, asking me to turn off Flight Mode etc... I haven't updated since 6.2 and have never seen this before. Am I doing something wrong or do we just need to wait for updates to bypass this?

Hang on a seond... are you really saying that I can buy a used Switch and hack it to play anything I want?!

Do I have to use the paper clip or possess any coding skills?

Dumb questions but this is the n00b-friendly, ask anything thread...

Yes you can. You dont need any coding skills, you only need reading skills. Also you dont have to use a paper clip, just buy a jig from eBay.

"Jig"?

I came to this site to ask about my old 3DS but then I start to see all these threads about the Switch!
This site is insanely brilliant (just not for dev's)!

I'm reading above about serial numbers on consoles to determine if it can be hacked... but I've no idea what to look for.

Is there a guide somewhere with all information on hacking, serial numbers/firmware, where to download, what online restrictions (if any), etc., all in one place?

Check your serial number here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-...he-first-post-before-asking-questions.481215/
