1.0J does not have NZone. The NZone service was launched on November 27, 2008 whereas the DSi itself was released on November 1, 2008. The NZone app was included starting with DSi firmware v1.2, and was unavailable in 1.0.

Edit: I found another post here that relates to dumping NAND on 1.0J DSi:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/dsi-1-0j.475223/#post-7411357
The thread also outlines the steps necessary in order to decrypt NAND on that version, which ends up saying that a hardmod is 100% required.

Edit 2: Just figured out that the ConsoleID can now be bruteforced! https://github.com/Jimmy-Z/bfCL/releases
A console ID is required anyway in order to decrypt the nand, without TWtool, there will be no No$GBA footers.

A guide is required for hardmodding, and the changes will be permanent. https://gbatemp.net/threads/dsi-downgrading-the-complete-guide.393682/

Just to clear up now, hard mod for me is 110% out of the question. I'd love to hard mod literally any other dsi, but not this one. I don't 100% understand everything you both are saying, but if there is a way to do it with a flashcard or even softmod (as long as it's 100% restorable) I'd love to do whatever to help.

Otherwise, I'd suggest getting a half broken japanese dsi on ebay (they're like around $10 shipped) and hope it's on 1.0j or something

As I said within the post you quoted, you can bruteforce the CID and Console ID using a Windows program called bfCL. It requires ONLY a NAND backup, which FWtool (which can be run off a DSi-compatible flashcart) can create as well.

As quoted here,

You won't need to softmod it, but you'll need a DS flashcart to run homebrew with. You can pick one up online at 3ds-flashcard here. You'll need at least a 2GB microSD card to use it as well. Once you have a flashcart and a microSD, format the microSD as FAT32 with default allocation, get the firmware for your flashcart (the firmware for the one I linked is here) and extract it to the root of your microSD, put this file in the GAME folder if using the one I linked, or the root if using a regular R4 or R4i with wood. After that, insert the microSD into your flashcart, insert the flashcart into the DSi, run the cartridge from the DSi menu, and run fwTool.nds from the ROM/game menu.

you'll need to purchase a flashcart online and wait for it to ship before being able to backup the NAND. Here is a link to the cheapest one available right now.

Luckily I have like shit ton of flashcarts laying around, been playing them on the dsi. I can get to it now I think? I'll start looking into the links you've pointed out

I thought DS mode didn't have access to the NAND?

Oops, I think you're right.

As @The Real Jdbye said, I might be mistaken. I forgot DSi prevents DS-mode apps from accessing the NAND. I was thinking of this in terms of DS( Lite). FWtool can run in DSi-mode IF run from certain flashcarts that run in DSi mode (since your DSi has the 1.0 cart whitelist (or none at all), those can actually be run on your console. The only one that I can recall offhand is Cyclo DSi Evolution.

DSi-mode cartridges also don't have access to the NAND IIRC.
Which is too bad since that would be an easy way to do it. I have a CycloDSi laying around that's never seen any use.

Really? That sucks. I guess that means that you'll need to hold onto it until a flaw is found in one of the 1.0 builtin apps.
I personally don't have any reason to care about 1.0j, but does anybody care enough to actually look for flaws in this version? Especially when someone could just find another 1.0j and hardmod it?

tbh its a pretty cool system so i wouldn't really suggest it, but by the looks of it you could probably use pogo pins or something to make a temp hardmod, but given the uniqueness of this system i would say just keep it as original as possible, if your a collector keep it as a showpiece in your collection, but if your not really a collector it might be worth floating it on collector sites and see what the best offer you can get is and treat yourself with something your more interested in, i always like the idea that super unique items are well looked after and dont just end up in a sock draw and being accidentally thrown out during a house move or something

im sure there is a fair few more 1.0J systems that don't have as much significance that could be hard modded

I was thinking about doing that, once I had learned more about it and if the price was right, but I have no idea what sites to go to. I tried googling but I have no clue what the go-to place to go for this stuff is. That's why I even came here in the first place.

well there are a few sites, places like assembler games (this is probably the best place as they often deal in more "exotic" hardware) and retro collect etc might be worth trying, im sure the discovery will get back to those most interested in hunting down rare systems (i would personally love it, but i know some rich guy will probably offer you a much better price than i could so go for it and treat yourself :) )

oh and as someone else mentioned, there are people who specialise in collecting coca cola stuff, so if you find the right conditions you could have a bit of a bidding frenzy, but i would imagine the game collectors would be more inclined to bid high on this one

no worries and good luck, and i would suggest you try hold out a little bit, say your interested in selling and see what kinda offers you pull in, theses kinds of systems can be hard to value as its a niche market, but i would say this one should be good, it looks more like a professionally made system than just a random magazine spray painting a DS and doing a competition for a custom green spray painted console

PS it would also be nice to take a few pictures to share with the guys over at the console variation site to catalogue it so maybe if someone else finds another there is more records of it existing, i guess its possible it was more of a "finalists" freebie as it looks fairly well made so i would imagine they would make a few for event organisers and stuff similar to gems like the nintendo world championship carts

Already tried to get it on the console variation site, they denied it for lack of information or documentation or something along those lines

ah no worries, i guess they have to try make sure they don't go legitimising "fakes" to increase their value, well your doing the right thing anyway, hopefully someone will dig up more corresponding "proof" of authenticity that it was a legitimate event that was held etc that might shed more light on where it came from and if there was several made available

Speaking of which: Nintendo's flashable SystemUpdater carts *do* have NAND access, same goes for TwlNmenu.
It seems like you can get NAND access from a cart, but we as a homebrew community can't get a hold of it yet.

Getting on-topic again, all you can try is a hardmod. Someone also talked about a temporary hardmod, but I dunno how that works. I really love to see this NAND surface anytime soon, even if it takes a very long time. (:

Assemblergames is the one I was going to suggest. Beware though that there are scammers there that tend to show up when there's something valuable being discussed, so be careful.
