SEGA's Mega Drive/Genesis Mini will release worldwide this fall

855QVHV.png

Since its delay last year, we haven't heard much of SEGA's upcoming miniature sized version of the Mega Drive/Genesis. Thanks to SEGA Fes 2019, we now have a better idea of what exactly the Genesis Mini will entail. On September 19th, the system will release worldwide, bundled with 40 different games that will vary depending on region. As the event took place in Japan, SEGA revealed the first ten titles in the lineup for eastern fans:

  • Sonic 2
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Shining Force
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Powerball
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Rent a Hero
  • Space Harrier II
  • Madou Monogatari I
The small console will either look like a Genesis or Mega Drive, and comes with a single controller and the aforementioned 40 games for about $60.00. If you want a second controller, you'll be able to get a package that offers all the previously mentioned items, and an additional gamepad for $80.00. M2, known for their Sega Ages collection, or alternatively, the 3D Classics Sega games on the Nintendo 3DS, will be developing the system software and handling the porting.

Already got a Genesis with a flashcart myself, so it'll be a pass for me. Not that I'd buy any of these anyways, too expensive for what little they offer (although this one appears to be a much better value than Nintendo/Sony's offerings).

So another shitty atgames clone console?

Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Um, no? They were axed from Sega long ago.

No thanks. I liked only two: Castlevania and Mega Man The Wily wars. So emulator is fine for me. Most games sucks when I played Mega Drive in childhood time. I will skip it.

Castlevania will be part of the 40 games
I love that almost everyone just ignores the fact that M2 is handling the games. Meaning this ain't no ordinary emulator box.

You expected people to actually read on the internet?

i mean quality is quality. not sure if I'll pay 60 bucks for it, but it'll be nice to have as a collector. but only if the controller is good, it's got quality hardware/software, and it's hackable. nes classic set the bar. hope sega rises to the occasion or does one better.

At least it's actually worth the money unlike the PSC.

If Sega considers doing a Sega Saturn and/or a Sega Dreamcast mini then I will buy it, even for $150+. As for Mega Drive sorry I'll skip that since that console games have been re-released everywhere.

Good luck emulating the piss poor documented Saturn properly.

Hope it can be better than PS Classic.

Even my 2010 PSP Slim is ages better than the PS-Classux. Even more, my DMG-01 is way better than that piece of junk, and it really is a Classic.

On topic:
I never had any of Sega consoles, nor did I play any of its games. Might emulate some of them to test-try it.

Any good games you can recommend me? (All genres welcome).

definitely not worth it when there's only 40 games in this VS over 100 sega genesis games on emulator.

I can only see this being worth it to someone for the nostalgic feels and having zero knowledge with emulation in which I have a couple of peers and friends that fits the category :(

All if these mini consoles are just to cash in on nostalgia.

He was talking about the worth of the devices seeing as emulation is higher quality and more convenient.

I don't think there was really any other reason for the companies to make them.

M2 is working on it, I don't think they can go any higher in terms of official emulation quality

This is the first time Castlevania: Bloodlines has been rereleased anywhere since the Genesis, isn't it?

Of course, most people interested in playing it before now probably just downloaded the ROM.

There's lots of things to be exited for about this:
1. Sega got M2 to work on it.
2. Yuzu Koshiro is making the menu music (which means Shinobi and Streets of Rage are a given).
3.Region change. They say the language and region you set in the options changes the title of the game (and therefore I assume the region and refresh rate). This means the already confirmed Castlevania Bloodlines will be called Castlevania The New Generation in Europe, but you have to consider the fact that they are also different ROMs using different refresh rates. I'm all about playing in 60hz, but I acknowledge people's nostalgia for the slow tunes of Sonic the Hedgehog in 50hz, and that is all what this console is about, nostalgia.

Also, from this you realize that more games with regional differences will have to be added since they wouldn't have gone through the effort of adding this function if not. This leads me to wish for:
Contra Hard Corps/Probotector
Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor
Crusader of Centy/Soleil

Too bad the European version of Castlevania will be the censored version
