SEGA's Mega Drive/Genesis Mini will release worldwide this fall

Since its delay last year, we haven't heard much of SEGA's upcoming miniature sized version of the Mega Drive/Genesis. Thanks to SEGA Fes 2019, we now have a better idea of what exactly the Genesis Mini will entail. On September 19th, the system will release worldwide, bundled with 40 different games that will vary depending on region. As the event took place in Japan, SEGA revealed the first ten titles in the lineup for eastern fans:

  • Sonic 2
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Shining Force
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Powerball
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Rent a Hero
  • Space Harrier II
  • Madou Monogatari I
The small console will either look like a Genesis or Mega Drive, and comes with a single controller and the aforementioned 40 games for about $60.00. If you want a second controller, you'll be able to get a package that offers all the previously mentioned items, and an additional gamepad for $80.00. M2, known for their Sega Ages collection, or alternatively, the 3D Classics Sega games on the Nintendo 3DS, will be developing the system software and handling the porting.

Yeah ...meh. Megadrive has been milked to death so many times I'm just not bothered.
Why not give us some kind of 'Sega Ages' console that'll play not only MD, but Dreamcast, Saturn and Master System too (fukk it, give us a couple of SG1000 games as well hehe)? The latest Odroid can run Saturn well, and Dreamcast extremely well.... admittedly it'd probably creep into the 3-figure rrp, but I'd be far more interested in that, especially if M2 handled it!

and why you repeat what I already said?
also, don't move the goal post. the point was if saturn emulation was good enough or not, not if someone will make a saturn clone console based on an emulator for cheap.

To be fair to @the_randomizer, the argument started when someone said they'd only be interested in a saturn or Dreamcast mini console. So, yea, his argument is certainly valid in that context.

Personally I wasn't much of a Sega guy growing up, but I'm glad that a Sega mini is getting produced. I've got a few friends who will pick this up in an instant.

This copyright ptoblem started when Jackson died, there was no problem to porting Sonic 3 before that.

Right, but if you take into account the backlash will.i.am just received about still playing Michael Jackson's music after the recent allegations then the situation certainly hasn't got better.

Not only is there a licensing issue, but if they sort it out then it might get boycotted. I suspect at some point they'll call it quits and create new music.

N64 FPGA is near impossible.

The original VHDL for the N64 chipset is out in the wild. There are probably changes required, but the biggest problem would be licensing.

I'd rather proper HDMI upscaled N64 games than eye-bleeding 240p res.

is that the new Odroid-N2 your talking about?
Ooh, didn't know about this until you mentioned it... nah the XU4 runs Saturn reasonably well - within the borders of the emulator of course!
Compatibility still isn't quite up there but has come a long way in recent years, so I think it's possible for a low-ish priced official offering.

Its just come out so that might be worth investing in as they say its 20% quicker than previous model.. ETAPrime is doing a youtube vid within a couple of days showing emulation results so it could be the next step for more powerful consoles like dreamcast

I'll tell you right now: Sonic 3 ain't gonna be included. Sega avoids that game like the plague. Probably because of Marble Garden and/or one of the competition stages (not Endless Mine).

I had the impression it was because of the rights to the music, which is under trial, as someone stated earlier.

Yeah. It just couldn't be Angel Island or Hydrocity because of Mania, and Ice Cap through Launch Base along with the boss music, credits music, and Knuckles's theme are covered by the S&K Collection.
