NUT GUI USB and Network installer for Tinfoil and SX Installer

Easiest way is to just download nut.exe to the directory where your NSP's are, and start it. Will install NSP's from your PC to the switch via USB or network connection. The games will show up on the switch (in the "new games" section) to install, the PC client is just a dumb server. Default username and password is guest/guest for network install.

# USB Install

Run server.py or Windows users can use the precompiled nut.exe in the release section.

Follow the directions found in the release page to install the USB driver.

After you run the server, ensure NSP's are visible in the list. If they are not, change the path and click the "scan" button.

Connect your USB cable from your switch to your PC.

Start Tinfoil or SX Installer, and all of the NSP's listed in nut server should now be available to install in Tinfoil or SX Installer.

# Network Install

Run server.py or Windows users can use the precompiled nut.exe in the release section.

After you run the server, ensure NSP's are visible in the list. If they are not, change the path and click the "scan" button.

Start Tinfoil or SX Installer, then go to locations, then select "Add New" location. Enter the ip, port, username, and password that is displayed in the nut server application, then press save.

All of the NSP's listed in nut server should now be available to install in Tinfoil or SX Installer.

i got a bunch of errors when i select to install on sdcard while running emunand
when I go back into sysnand, all my games were deleted, but the saves were intact

If you use emunand, with the same SD card, the user profile is exactly the same, so you created the application record in the emunand system, then when you booted into sysnand, it didnt have the application record, but saw all of those NCA's that appeared to be orphaned / wasting space, so sysnand deleted them.

I have every single game organized in its own folder (including updates and DLC). will this be recognized? I find it way to unorganized if everything is in \root.

@oblid
good to know i am not alone.

Can anyone else test this and confirm if they have this 1 minute idle bug that freezes Tinfoil/SX Installer with the looping prompt .

@Reecey
That's actually very slow, my minimum install speed starts at 28Mb/s and speeds starts climbing up towards 31-32Mb/s, probably goes higher than those speeds if the game size were bigger (USB Tested). some other users reported higher speeds. Maybe your card has low read and write speeds (could be wrong), but that speed you get is even slower than the old tinfoil which couldn't go higher than 13.5Mb/s for me.
This is Wi-fi 5ghz, bro! Your never going to achieve anything above about 8 - 9MB/s transfer with the switch Wi-fi card it’s not capable of it I would say to hit 9MB/s tops is very good considering! USB connection agreed it would transfer a lot higher rate.

Google Drive access:- “Fartgate” funny! won’t be happy when you implement that in sx installer I mean there charging a lot of money GBP or US dollars to access there Nintendo “CDN” yeah right more like a cloud drive!

You need to show it all first under file browser go back out the app and go back in again then it should all show up in the correct columns as long as you have it setup on your pc drive in correct folders dlc, updates etc.. remember if you already have the title id installed it won’t show up in the installer unless you delete it then it will.

Edit: also @blawar your title id folders could do with updating, many newer titles are now missing blanked out in the installer.

not smb shares im guessing?

Not yet.

Yes, it will scan sub directories, so you should be good to go.

the nro wont launch in reinx for some reason?

This is a bug with reinx spoofing TX services incorrectly to try to trick TX applications to boot. You will have to use an older version of ReiNX, or use Atmosphere or SX OS.

That is their problem not mine :) I will update the metadata soon.

so it can handle subfolders?

Yes.

install NSP's
I was wondering if its possible to look into making tinfoil to install big files on fat32 cause goldleaf somehow doing it. Example smash ultimate is 15gb and therefore tinfiol reads it as 250kb and gives nca error when trying to install it , while goldleaf alllows me to install it ^^ will be great if you can look into it?!

are you installing from the SD card? If so, its probably a split NSP. It may work with tinfoil if you put the bits in a directory and set the sticky bit, not sure.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
