Hey guys so yea im a complete noob not going to lie here. Im use to jailbreaking the sony consoles from the ps1-ps4. (yes I got all them still) but I recently got a switch to add to the collection and to enjoy the games. so here is the problem I am having. Currently I went though the process to access my keys and I saved them and with the nand so incase anything should go south. I did manage to dl and install 1 nsp game which was super Mario bros delux. (loving the game still), but now I wanted to get some other games one for instance is octopath travelers. So im currently on fw 4.1.0 and honestly im sure some will say I need to be on fw 6.x.x which is fine. but here is where things go wrong for me. I did get ahold of the file in both .xci and nsp and ive spent 7 hours here searching for ways to convert the game to the .xci with no luck at all I kept getting just .nci files so I gave up on that and I got the nsp thinking ok I can just run it with gold-leaf like I did the other, but I ran into a error code on that aswell. so can anyone give me some advice on what I am doing wrong or anything honestly?? anything would be much appreciated honestly. thanks guys. (again a complete noob for the switch so please no rude comments)

Use ChoidujourNX to upgrade to 6.2 and then install the nsp using golfleaf :)

Why do you want to convert the game to xci? Try XCI Builder. You can update your console with ChoiDujourNX to 6.2.0.

Ok I will sure give that a go then! Appreciate the information as I was trying to find a way to update to 6.2, but never found a way.

Well actually I wasnt trying to convert to xci I was trying to convert the xci to nsp lol

Thank you alot. Going to go ahead and get that and try it out

Yea I tried that with no luck honestly.
If you found a download of the .xci you will very likely also find a .nsp of the game on the net :)

Yea that's what's weird though. I did manage to find the nsp of that, but when I used goldleaf. To Inatall it. I got a error from it oddly enough. After that is when I posted this thread

FYI, you don't necessarily need to update to play games that require newer firmware. You just need to add the newer keys to your keyfile and install NSP's using the option to "ignore firmware version".
Apparently some games won't like that, but I haven't come across any yet. I try to be pretty conservative on updating and am usually several versions behind (I have had a switch since version 1/Launch day). Right now I am still on version 5.1, but if a reason came up that made updating easier than just going about my business, I would do that (mind you to only maybe version 6.1 for now, unless I had a compelling reason).

Well than either update or use the method which @DayVeeBoi mentioned.
Another option is to convert between file types using HACTool if you have a computer handy. I'm not super familiar with the tool as I have only had to use it occasionally, but I don't think there are any formats you can not convert to or from given the proper inputs and googling will give you the correct options/command.

@kimolottie Are you using SXOS? I don't have this and reading another thread leads me to believe that TX hasn't bothered to add the ignore firmware option, so I don't know if that will work.
If you haven't looked into it yet, Octopath basegame requires version 5.0, so that's likely what your error is resulting from.
Honestly, I'm not right in touch with the current state of the art here, that's why I didn't comment with a solution in the first place, I just wanted to point out that you don't neeed to update if you have a reason that you want to avoid it.
I am still using an older version of Tinfoil to install games and it does have the option to ignore versions on installing NSP.
Using Tinfoil to install and ignore firmware version will work on SX (at least on earlier versions) so you may wanna just give it a shot.

No I dont have sos. I been trying to not go that route honestly. I just updated to 6.2 which honestly I kinda wanted too, but I tried to install octo again and I ran into the same error which is. (Failed to open the meta NCA (CNMT NCA): 0x177a02 is the error like last time)

oh and I was trying to install the nsp version of that aswell

I believe you have to extract your keys again and add them to your key file, also you wont be able to just start the game. You will have to reinstall it (there may be an easier way, but I don't know it).

also when I try to install the game using tinfoil I get a error code 2168-0002 (0x4a8) which crashes the switch and forces me to reboot.

yea im working on getting my keys again to see if this will fix it

How can add the newer keys to the keyfile (guide will be nice :)), does that completly remove the firmware requirement for the games?

No, it doesn't remove the firmware requirement, but using an installer that ignores them in conjunction with the newer keys does.
In that case, you wouldn't be able to extract the keys you need (as they wouldn't have the keys required for lets say a version 6 game in version 5 firmware) so you would have to get a key file from like pastebin or a similar site (you're not allowed to source them here).
Keep in mind, I am speaking general terms, I can't write you a guide because I am not totally in touch with what best practice is right now (I have barely touched mine for a few months).

I believe you need to use lockpick, this error is related to keys or tickets, and according to github using the newest version of lockpick will remedy
