Agree about the high price. Maybe in the future Nintendo should offer some extra contents in order to justify the 60$ price tag.

Lol @ "game running at 1080p 60fps". Does this particular game really need to mention that? like too much effort involved to achieve that :D

I would buy this lol.

Been playing NSMBUD with the missus this evening and it’s STILL damned fun!

I just wish there were more cross title power-ups, like a cape/raccoon tail etc for all players to use, not just a crown for one “easy” character to use.

Also wtf is the point of nabbit?

Everything that was said here.
Just as much effort and heart is put into any game no matter the style.
All of that plus the fact that the PRICE of games is not based on how much it costed to make (We'd be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single triple A game.) or the TYPE of game or even how much effort was put into making the game. You must understand how these things work before you call it ridiculous.
Yeah, I overexaggerated a bit to catch interest. But that's partly because of all the blended fanboyism that you can see around this port (did you read the comments to the trailers on the nintendo youtube channel?) and I'm a bit frustrated about it. And I think that we (the community) should show nintendo that they can't and shouldn't do anything.
Actually price and type of game/ development costs are partly connected but there are other factors, too. You won't see many full price indie titles (with relatively low development costs). Many other ports of games to the switch don't cost full price either (more in the 40€ range).
Full price for a 5 year old 2d platformer port with less features IS ridiculous and the community should show nintendo that they can't do everything they want. But we'll see how it works out. A publisher can only charge as much as people are willing to pay for it. Actually nintendo doesn't believe that the game is worth 60€ but they think that they can charge 60€ and get away with it. Big difference.
Actually the age of a game is connected to it's value. Stuff like marketing, the feeling that you are one of the first ones to play it, spoilers etc. all factor into the value of a game. That's the reason why the price for all games (with unlimited availability) drops over time.

Regarding the content:
There are many games with more content (which dropped in price, too) and there are games with far more (multiplayer) replay value. Most people won't play the game after having finished it once or twice.
Regarding less features: no miiverse integration, no helper blocks and no videoclips. I'm sure that they could have found workarounds if they tried - or at least include other features to replace the ones they removed. But they were simply too lazy for that.
Of course a good 2D platformer takes less time to develop than a 3D platformer with the same features etc. because you have one dimension less to think about. Easy calculation :P

tell that to the people who'd throw blocks in front of you when jumping over holes.

LOL that is what made it so fun to use! XD But aside from that, just because you were playing with the incorrect people who don't listen when you tell them to stop doesn't mean the feature should be removed. What should be removed are the people you're playing with if you say you don't like it. XD

I never said that any of the characters (besides Toadette) were new. Way to skim over things.
I was talking about the ability to play as anyone in this version of the game and not being locked to anyone in particular because of your player slot/mode.
Even the OP agreed on the correction I made about Nabbit, which obviously meant that he wasn't new at all.

They would have to change NSMB2 a lot for it to be able to work with 4 players, otherwise it would be even easier than it already was. The stages were all designed with 1-2 players in mind.
NSMB2 is known to be the easiest out of all the NSMB games and quite literally a cash grab. If they decided to pair it with either the DS or Wii games, it'd be worth the purchase.

Not skimming, just about the part when you said "He's not wrong". I look at it as playing as Nabbit in New Super Mario Bros. U portion of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Not the Luigi U portion) is not playing as a new character. But yeah. Of course the character selection for single player is a new feature.

And yes. It would need to be changed for 4 players. In fact, I know exactly what you mean about being the easiest. Nintendo put way too much focus on innovative levels that have unique ways to throw coins at you, than innovative levels as far as the difficulty goes. With 4 players, it is like playing a Mario game that lacks enemies and hazards, but has coins constantly thrown at you.... Btu with 4 people standing around grabbing coins. LOL
Aside from the difficulty, the uniqueness on the level design is what makes it one of my favorites. Just the downfall to that is the difficulty. Double edges knife, I guess.
If they had to pair it, it would only make sense to pair it with New Super Mario Bros. DS since it is a sequel to that game. (U is a sequel to Wii.)
IF they were to do that, it would only make sense to rebuild both games to have the exact same graphics as U/Deluxe but the levels are the same. Similar to how Super Mario Maker works. The tiles' graphics are just changed and that is mainly it. (Including the character graphics, etc.)

Then call it New Super Mario Bros. Collection. LOL THAT would be worth the price. Both game supporting 4 players.

Agreed on the power-ups, though I'd rather see them in a new game instead.
It would be nice to see the cape feather make a comeback eventually, seeing as it's only been the super leaf and tanooki suit so far.

I think Nabbit's just there for people who either want to cheese through the game and/or are having a tough time with a stage and don't want to use the Super Guide (even though you'd stiill have to go back and beat it again with another character, since it won't count as being cleared).

Things that were said. xD

Before I go on, I will say yes. The age does count toward the amount of buys. But mainly the age of release. I don't LIKE that fact, games like Super Metroid should STILL be full priced from how amazing it is... But whatever, right?
I have not seen much feedback... Not really into what people say about something. Many times people have bad opinions from my interest. A good example is someone playing Fortnite over a game that I like... Makes no sense to me, but that is why. So no, I have not seen it. But I can definitely understand you concern on the matter. A good example is Super Mario Run: Nintendo never made a phone game. Why would they? They have their OWN CONSOLE. But sadly, they were losing money and want to find more and new ways to stack the dough up... So sometimes this means their quality of products falls short because apparently people don't like the good things they HAVE done. So pretend Nintendo started acting like EA (No I won't explain what acting like EA means.) and people were praising them for it, I understand they will continue to act like EA and for people like myself, that's a problem when people praise them for wrongdoing...

Now I see what you mean about the content thingy.

I'm afraid you're wrong. Less dimensions in video game perspective does not mean less effort or work.
It, for example, could easily take a year to make P.T. for a few months for a full game working at the same speed and the same amount of workers on the job. One is a physically smaller game than the other but it does not mean it will be shorter to make.
When you are tasked with one thing, their are JUST AS MANY dependencies to making it done well than if you are tasked with another. Some things people are good and efficient at while others they may not be. One less dimension does not mean one less thing to worry about. It simply means the type of video game you are creating is completely different and a different set of challenges await.

QUICK EDIT: Nabbit is there for people who find the game challenging or just don't want to deal with certain aspects of the game. Pretend this game MUST be played with 2 controllers. Like 4 Joycons. You MUST control two characters at once and you CANNOT use two people as that is not the intended gameplay style. That sounds bogus, but pretend that was the case. Then you go play as Nabbit because that is the only character you need 2 joy cons for, for us we know that would make more sense but we also find that WAY MORE FUN. Some people may think the game is super fun but too many enemies and they just want to jump over holes and stuff and find the enemies to take the fun out of the game. Some people may just want to get ONE QUICK Star Coins but it is too hard so just quickly get it done and over with. And some people the game may literally be THAT HARD where they really can't progress without Nabbit....

Which puts you in a category with maybe 1% of Switch owners. Obviously Nintendo isn't going to cater to that 1% specifically. There are some WiiU ports that I still really want to see come to Switch. Mario Maker and the HD Zelda remakes in particular.

Mario Maker should come to the switch. They can add more content

I always found it more than a little bit silly that NSMBU ran at 720p on the Wii U, like it isn’t exactly a powerhouse but it should’ve been able to handle 1080p easy. Guess the game was just poorly optimized on there... or maybe it was primarily programmed on earlier, more limited in-dev hardware/software. Anyone remember that old Wii U webpage that Nintendo of America had on their site? They used to advertise the res increase from NSMBWii and NSMBU on there back in the day.
It’s dumb that this port costs sixty dollars, but I can’t say it’s particularly surprising given Nintendo already has an extreme adversity to dropping the prices on their older titles that haven’t been out for at least half a decade.

Interesting thought. New Super Mario Bros. U used to be a tech demo called New Super Mario Bros. Mii for Wii U as just to show what the hardware can do, really. But I doubt that would be the reason for the resolution... Maybe they were trying to optimize it for both the Gamepad and the television simultaneously without hiccups? I honestly don't know...

This isn't a 2D platformer though. It's 2.5D, meaning absolutely everything is still created and rendered in 3D.

Hell, in a lot of cases, hand-drawn 2D art can be far more costly and time-consuming than making a game in full 3D anyway, so it's really a moot point. Just look at Cuphead as one example.

3D can be more costly and it requires non-common skills unlike 2D but it doesn't mean the game always takes more effort or is way longer/harder to make than 2D.

Also this is not true as far as I know. New Super Mario Bros. U, the only 3D objects are the characters. I think the tiling of the floor and world is actually 2D images to make up all of that. Just the characters and and etc are 3D.... One can argue if the coins are even in 3D...

The Gamepad’s video in that game is just a cloned framebuffer, like what most Wii U games do when they display the same content on the TV and Gamepad IIRC; the performance impact should be negligible.

I wish I knew that. I expected the Wii U Gamepad to be so bulky because it carries it's own graphics card and needs it's own processing power.... But maybe in this specific case that wasn't even really needed...

I should have said anything else below 60 FPS. No it´s clear what I mean.:P No idea about 120 fps, I heard there are PC screens that refresh at 120 FPS.
I know what you meant lol. There’s computer monitors that can go up to 200hz/FPS. Would be nice to see any game console hit that at atleast 1080p

OP
How anyone can defend the 60 dollar price tag is beyond me, should've had more content.
I agree that the price is unfair for a game that’s cheaper on the Wii U but I still think that if you don’t have a Wii U then the Switch port is worth picking up because it is a fun game. This is coming from someone who 100% completed the story mode.

I simply wanted to share some information that readers are likely to find useful. You’re right, it’s not some amazing technical achievement but it does make the game feel smoother and more responsive and look clearer.

On a side note is anyone having problems getting the old '99 lives' trick to work ?

I'm talking about this one

It was present in the wii u version but I'm struggling to get it to work in this Deluxe version on the Switch, just looking for confirmation if it's been patched out or not, or if it's simply me not being able to pull it off
