How do I apply a game update to a game I own on cartridge? The update is an NSP file so I simply go into Tinfoil and just select install? Or do I have to do something different because it's on cartridge.
I mean when it comes to normally downloading game updates, do you do something different if its on a cartridge versus a digital copy? ;)

So ive been reading into so many different things while im waiting on my rcm jig to come...

Was looking at using Atmosphere and i have my sd card set up according to the guide. The first thing thats confusing me is where to put the patchs that allow you to use backup managers etc?
I know its in a folder in the sd card but which im not sure of.

Also what is the advantage of using kosmos? Is there one?

The more i look into it all the more things get confusing ha. Will i need to be in front of a pc to do the setup each time i use the switch? Or would that only be when its been shut down? I plan on it mostly sitting in the dock on sleep mode.

Also do i need to dump keys at the end to be able to load backups on the switch? Again i seen something along these lines mentioned so ya more confusion on my end haha.

Anyway sorry about all the questions!

not sure if this is a noob question, kind of sound like one to me...

What happens when we are running CFW (ReiNX), have autoRCM enabled, and hold down the power button long enough to shutdown the switch? Maybe 10 seconds or so. I can tell its not in RCM mode because TegraRCM shows "No RCM."

I'm wondering what will happen when I turn the switch back on. Will it be in RCM mode or do I need to get my jig out? Normally I'd try and see what happens but I dont want my fuses burned if my switch doesnt start in RCM mode.

For vanilla/raw/stock (or however you want to refer untouched) Atmosphere, they go in the kip_patches folder.

Kosmos is a package that includes Atmosphere but uses a different bootloader than the one that comes with Atmosphere; Atmosphere is designed to be used with Fusee but Kosmos bundles it with Hekate. This doesn't affect the functionality of the CFW but Hekate is better than Fusee since it has more tools and can load other CFW unlike Fusee. Not to mention that Kosmos comes with all of the stuff you would normally have to add manually to Atmosphere such as patches, the homebrew menu, and some useful homebrew applications.

The exploit is temporary as most exploits on newer consoles are. Whenever the console is restarted or turned off, the exploit is lost and needs to be re-initiated. Sleep mode doesn't count as the console being off.

There are 2 categories of keys: console-specific and public. The only console-specific keys are the biskeys which are only used for decrypting the NAND via hackdiskmount. The public keys are, as the name implies, shared across all consoles but cannot be shared for legal reasons. Instead various tools are used to dump them from an individual's console so people can obtain them legally and not have to look them up on the Internet. The public keys serve a wide variety of functions from converting between .XCI and .NSP format, unpacking .XCI and .NSP files, and dumping games in .NSP format.

I've documented all of the interactions with AutoRCM and powering off the Switch in this thread. Also you can't burn fuses with AutoRCM unless you perform a system update either online or via a cartridge.

Thanks for the detailed reply!

So if i go the Kosmos route i dont need to add the patchs into the Atmosphere folder?

So i need to use the keys when i am setting up game backups threw the likes of Tinfoil or Goldleaf ? By the way which one of them is the better option to choose?

If you use Kosmos, you don't need to add the patches yourself since it comes with everything you need.

No, you don't need keys for installing games. Keys are needed if you're converting between the two formats, .XCI and .NSP. Keys are also needed if you're directly installing .XCI files but they are not needed for installing .NSP files.

As for which one is better, while Goldleaf has an official release unlike Tinfoil, it appears to have a few bugs not present in the original Tinfoil so I recommend Tinfoil over Goldleaf until all of those bugs are squashed.

Do you need to use an Y cable if I was using a 2.5 HDD with the switch docked and with SX OS? Been hearing about USB port burned.

Im using ReiNX in my brothers console. Want to enable AutoRCM. Easiest way to do it without messing with too many stuff?

So, download hetake, copy the files to the SD, boot it, enable AutoRCM and then launch ReiNX, right? No need to boot to hetake anymore, right?

Hekate is a bootloader, that has the option to enable AutoRCM, ReiNX is a CFW, it will be in RCM mode when you powered on, not recommend unless you know what you are doing, or you gonna end up with a blank screen and freaking out. Still need a way to inject the payload.

You would have to setup Autoboot with Hekate. In the hekate_ipl.ini file which you can find in the /bootloader folder, at the top is the autoboot setting. By default, it is set to 0, but you can exchange that 0 for the name of the Launch Configuration you wish to Autoboot. Or you can configure that internally within Hekate by going to "Launch Options"

Something I just taught of actually I have an account already on my switch with save data from smash bros.

Will this still be on thr machine and be usable with a backup of smash bros after I load up cfw?

Can someone help me please? I just got a switch today and according to threads its not patched (serial: XAW700123). I followed the ReiNX tutorial and managed to boot in RCM, inect payload and get the splash screen. Then I got a notification saying I needed to update for my SD card to work. Realizing my mistake I reformatted it to FAT32 using GUIFormat. I booted into RCM, Tegra said 'RCM OK', I injected payload and nothing happened. Pressed the power button on my switch and it booted normally. Any suggestions?

I just ran the test to see if my Switch is 100% not patched and I got the 0x7000 but at the end under my keys it says Win32 error 31 during post-smash read op.

Don't know what's the deal with the PS4 but game updates/DLC are region-specific for the Switch meaning they have to match the base game's region. There aren't really any other requirements for updates/DLC outside of having enough space on whatever you're installing it onto.

With the dlc/updates if running sx os emunand 6.2 with xcl games.
Is there a option of where to install dlc and game updates to eg internal or sd card?
