Since old wii homebrew emulators have been updated to use gamepad, I just continue to use them. They work well, and unless you playing playstation, n64 or gba, hardly any performance issues. Genesis plus gx is still probably the best emulator for accuracy, compatibility and just quality polish.
"WII" homebrew emulators work well for what I been using of it. Don't expect something amazing since it's just a wii emulator. If you want a better performance emulator, I suppose retroarch is what you will be using (Since it's the only option on wii u with no hope of any other in sight)Do they work better than retroarch ? Do they install on wii u side or vwii?

The wii emulators like FECU/Snes9x/vba GX and genesis plus gx work well. I gotten used to using them by now and is great that i can use it with the gamepad or wii u pro controller cause of recent updates. But is just using the vwii system to work.
You can use retroarch if you like, is not bad either and it doesn't use vwii to work so it's probably recommended. I just like how these work, I gotten used to using it, it's easy to setup and the menus looks nice.
Yeah I have them all working on wii just wondering if retro arch is better can u use gamepad or wii u pro or classic on controllers on retro arch or wii emulators and which run the best?
