I got it in the mail today, played one round of multiplayer, and I'm liking it so far.

I was worried it would force motion controls in minigames where they don't make sense, like in Mario Party 8 where some minigames were ridiculously hard to control because of weird forced motion controls. But in 10 rounds we only got one motion controlled minigame, and it was fine, just a "spam as fast as you can" type minigame, so that alleviated my fear.

Stages are a bit small, but they are varied enough and have multiple paths, so I'm fine with that.
The only thing I don't like that much so far is the partner mechanic, it sort of feels like cheating when someone is lucky and gets multiple partners and gets extra dice rolls every round and the rest of the players are at a disadvantage for the entire game. But that CPU lost with only 1 star, so I guess it didn't help them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I played a couple of rounds with my gf yesterday and really enjoyed it. I've got nothing to compare it with because I've never played any of the other games in the series.

I wish there was a 2 player mode where you weren't forced to play with computer controlled characters.

Mario party 4 is and will always be my favorite. Super Mario party is just as fun, but lacks my love of using an actual controller. Very fun to play, I got lost in the game for a few hours after I installed the nsp when it was “leaked”. Seems like it will make a great party game for family events

I would love to play more maps... These maps are sometimes to easy to handle so a map editor or custom sprites and more and this game would be more as just perfect

To be honest: I never had so much fun playing this games 2v2 mode, I kinda like it even more that the 4v4 mode XD.
I love this game , but the most stupid problem with this game is the SMALL AS F#?! maps...
This turns the game so fucking unfair.
Sometimes the one with the lead, can instantly get the next few stars with no effort. #Golden Pipe? WTF.
The 4v4 mode is unbalanced af in my opinion.

The game is great, played it with my GF and we enjoyed it immensely (we were moving from the 3DS version (there's like three of them on the console, I wanna say the one we played the most was Star Island) and haven't had much experience with the game elsewhere), but I personally found a few things to be unfair or could use expanding on.

I agree immensely with OP regarding the "partner" system. Kinda shitty if an NPC (such as Boo, Rosalina or someone else with a personal, high roll-low cost die) gets lucky and scores like two or three (i've only seen two so far) partners and they continuously get insanely high dice rolls (saw mario pull a 12 one time).

The stages are definitely on the small side. I missed the large stages from the 3DS versions of the game. I especially like the dynamic stages and stages within stages (like the boo level where it the route ends inside a mansion). Hopefully we'll see more stages in the future. Just seems so weird to include so little.

It's fun and cheap. Easy stars for everyone and a broken item that takes you straight to the star. Obtaining stars need to be nerfed. 10 coins for one star is not fun and rewarding. Can't wait for a way to modify the game to make it 20 coins only. I haven't checked much of the settings so I dont know if you can actually change it or not. Not enough bonus stars given for the best players. Unique dice box and partners need to go away. It's a broken mechanic that no one asked for. Boards are very small and not original. Minigames are unique and fun to play. Able to play with my friends and family once again. Still haven't played with CPU but I'm sure they're as dumb and easy to defeat in the previous games. The wait was worth it and the additional two extra joycons that I wont ever use was alright I guess. Online play sucks. It's just how I expected. Lag and rage quits. I give the game a 8/10. Nintendo did a good job with the motion control on the joycons and I'm happy they brought the mario party franchise to the Switch

I think the idea behind 10 coins for a star and the smaller stages is so that you don't end up going through most of the game without getting any stars because some lucky bastard with lots of coins is buying them all. That happened to me a lot in older Mario Party games. Not even because I was bad at the minigames, just because I had bad luck and lost the coins. I don't mind though. That random event in the last 5 rounds in Mario Party 5 (I think? or was it 6) where the price of stars was lowered and more of them appeared at a time was a lot of fun.

Honestly, my friends and I have had a blast playing this one. We literally played it all night long (till 4am) on launch day, and there is a pretty good amount of content. Motion controls don't feel unnecessary or awkward, the game feels fair and fun, and it's honestly the most fun I've had with Mario Party since Mario Part DS. They got it right this time.

Some gripes, like others mentioned, include boards that are kinda lacking in imagination. I feel that the next Mario Party should do something to revamp the core experience and make boards more interesting. The "partners" thing can at times be unfair, like if one person ends up getting a bunch of partners to immensely boost their dice rolls, or gain a sizeable advantage in partner minigames. But it's the degree of unbalanced you'd expect from a Mario Party game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Not a dealbreaker by any means.

The asking price is steep. My roommate was the one who bought it so I didn't have to pay anything, but I likely wouldn't buy it at the full $60 price tag. $40 or under seems fair, but as you know, Nintendo games rarely ever go on sale. Still, if you're wondering whether or not this is a good Mario Party, it totally is.

I think I have it at 100% now.. Except for the stickers. It's a good game, best Mario Party in years. But I hope for an update that allows more costumation like no partners or no bonus stars. New boars would also be cool

Basically what the others said:

The Good:
+ Minigames mostly good (The only 3 that I dislike are the Soccer one, the "Throw Balls at Robotic Cheep Cheep" Game and the damn "Shake stuff out of the Jar" game)
+ Motion Controls work VERY well and are not a stupid gimmick that does not work most of the time like during the Wii days
+ Thank god we only have one "Button Mash" Minigame
+ Many different Modes
+ Golden Dice to remove the RNG from your Dice Roll (even with partners) and opening up the possibility of more strategic decissions
(e.g. Skipping a Star to instead buy a golden Dice, getting a Partner quick and having an advantage in the later game)

The Neutral:
~ Partner Party does not make fun at all if played with a CPU in your team
~ River Raft is way to easy (note: I did not pop every Baloon on every Route yet)
~ Game could have more Minigames in my opinion but I am glad a "quality over quantity" approach was choosen
~ Partners do feel kind of overpowered when you have more than 2 and the remaining Players have none

The Bad:
- Gold Coins seem to NEVER be a problem (Stars cost only 10, pity Coins in nearly every Minigame for the looser instead of the old "winner takes it all" approach)
- Why do we have no customization options besides the amount of turns (and even then we are restricted by 10 / 15 / 20 Rounds)
- The size of the Boards feels to small after a few rounds and getting "used" to the Boards
- More Boards in general would be nice

Special Stuff only I get mad about:
* Why is the Single Player Content locked until you have every Minigame? Would it not have made more sense to have the Single Player mode from the start? What was Nintendo thinking?
* Why are so many unlocks behind "randomness"? E.g. <REDACTED FOR SPOILERS> who will just randomly appear. Took me a while until I "found" him because I never played around the Plaza...

But there is hope...
Please Nintendo, give us DLC (I would totally pay for more Minigames / more Boards) and a free Update adding customization options for the main Party Game Mode (Bonus Star settings, 50+ Rounds, 20 Coind Stars instead of 10)
Heck they could call it the "Retro Rule Throwback Update", promoting the "old-school" way Mario Party was played...

I liked it, way better than the stupid advanced `microphone` minigames and such. Some minigames with motion controls still feel kind of forced (like the one with the magnifying glass) though. I loved that they upped the difficulty of some minigames as well (like the ones where you have to count flying koopa's and the fruits they are holding and stuff). Overall, i think they have done a great job.
